Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Rodgers & Hammerstein Box Set Coming Up

The UK branch of 20th Century Fox Entertainment is apparently getting ready to release a Blu-ray boxset with six Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals. The box set will include Robert Wise's The Sound of Music (1965), Walter Lang's State Fair (1945) and The King and I (1956), Joshua Logan's South Pacific (1958), Fred Zinnemann's Oklahoma! (1955), and Henry King's Carousel (1956).

More Catalog Titles Coming Up From Olive Films

Independent distributors Olive Films have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray four more catalog titles: Mark DiSalle's The Perfect Weapon (1991), John Rich's Boeing, Boeing (1965), Frank Tashlin's Rock-a-Bye Baby (1958) and The Geisha Boy (1958). Street date for all four titles is February 14th.

Independent distributors Kino Video will release on Blu-ray Polish director Lech Majewski's (Gospel According to Harry, Glass Lips) The Mill and the Cross (2011), starring Rutger Hauer, Charlotte Rampling, and Michael York. Earlier this year, the film had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Street date is January 31th.

Acorn Media will bring Robin of Sherwood: Set 2 to Blu-ray next year. This adaptation of the Robin Hood legend stars Jason Connery (The Lords of Discipline) as Robert of Huntingdon, a nobleman who picks up the famed hero's mantle in order to help defend the oppressed. Robin of Sherwood: Set 2 streets on February 14th, 2012.

The UK branch of Studio Canal will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Roland Joffé's (The Mission, There Be Dragons) The Killing Fields (1984), starring John Malkovich, Sam Waterston, Julian Sands, and Haing S. Ngor. In 1984, the film won three Oscar Awards, including Best Cinematography (Chris Menges) and Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Haing S. Ngor). Street date is February 27th.

Independent French distributors Studio 37 will release on Blu-ray Frank Henry's crime thriller De Force (2011), starring ex-Manchester United star Eric Cantona, Isabelle Adjani, Simon Abkarian, and Anne Consigny. Exact technical specs, supplemental features and region-coding status for this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date set by the distributors is February 28th.

French distributors ARP Sélection are set to release on Blu-ray Italian director Paolo Sorrentino's (The Family Friend, Il Divo) This Must Be The Place (2011), starring Sean Penn, Frances McDormand, Harry Dean Stanton, and David Byrne. Earlier this year, the film won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Street date is February 28th.

The UK branch of Studio Canal (formerly Optimum Home Entertainment) has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray director Neil Jordan's The Crying Game (1992), starring Forest Whitaker, Miranda Richardson, Stephen Rea, and Adrian Dunbar. In 1993, the film won Oscar Award for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. Street date is February 27th.

The UK branch of Studio Canal (formerly Optimum Home Entertainment) has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray three more cult Hammer films: John Gilling's The Reptile (1966) and The Plague of Zombies (1966), and Terence Fisher's Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966). Technical specs, region coding status and special features for these releases are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date for all three is February 27th.

Blu-ray Sales, Nov 7-13: Harry Potter is Magical

With only three days of sales for week ending 11/13/11, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 apparated on top of both the Blu-ray and the overall sales charts. Potter mania was in full effect as the last installment in the popular series made its home video debut. Nielsen reports that almost 67% of all top 20 disc sales and over 73% of all top 20 Blu-ray unit sales were attributed to Harry Potter films.

Following yesterday's Criterion Collection February Blu-ray announcements, Amazon has now listed those titles for pre-order, and two have special discounted prices. Rainer Werner Fassbinder's World on a Wire and Otto Preminger's Anatomy of a Murder are on sale for $16.99, or 57% off their SRP of $39.95. Update: Amazon has just removed the pre-orders (with the sale prices) for both films.

Wings Blu-ray (Updated)

In an early announcement to retailers, Paramount Pictures has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray William A. Wellman's Wings (1927), starring Clara Bow, Richard Arlen, Charles 'Buddy' Rogers, and Gary Cooper. Wings was the first film, and the only silent film, to win an Academy Award for Best Picture. Street date is January 24th.

Image Entertainment Reports Increase in Revenues, Better Blu-ray Sales

Independent distributors Image Entertainment reported 12.7% increase of revenues for the second-quarter (ended Sept. 30). Disc (Blu-ray and DVD) revenues in particular increased 8.7% to $17.0 million, from $15.7 million. According to the company, gross profit margins were also up 22.1%, compared to 17.0% for the three months ended September 30, 2010, driven by strong sales of Blu-ray catalog product.
