Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Independent British distributors G2 Pictures have revealed that they are preparing for Blu-ray release German director Dennis Gansel's The Fourth State a.k.a The Year of the Snake (2012), starring Moritz Bleibtreu (Run Lola Run), Kasia Smutniak (Quiet Chaos), Max Riemelt (Urban Explorer), and Rade Serbedzija (Before the Rain). The preliminary release date set by the distributors is August 27th.

Six David Lynch Films Heading to the UK

The UK branch of Universal Studios will release six films directed by David Lynch: Eraserhead (1977), Dune (1984), Blue Velvet (1986), Wild at Heart (1990), Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992), and Lost Highway (1997). Street date for all six films is June 4th.

Eureka Entertainment to Release The Birth of a Nation

Eureka Entertainment announced today the acquisition of rights to a new HD restoration of D. W. Griffith's legendary film The Birth of a Nation (1915). The film will join Eureka's Masters of Cinema Series, and will be released later in the year on Blu-ray for the first time in a dual format (DVD & Blu-ray) edition.

Twilight Time has revealed their Blu-ray selections for May and June; these titles include the 1959 version of Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Big Heat, As Good as It Gets, and The Wayward Bus. Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Big Heat street on May 8th; the other two Blu-rays street on June 12th.

Meatballs Blu-ray

In June, Lionsgate Home Entertainment will bring Meatballs to Blu-ray. Directed by Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), this classic comedy marks the leading-man debut of Bill Murray (Stripes) as Tripper Harrison, the sardonic head counsellor at the third-rate Camp North Star summer camp. Meatballs is expected to street on June 12th.

Eagle Rock Entertainment have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Simply Red: Live At Montreux. This two-hour 18-song soul-drenched set -- recorded while touring for the multi-platinum Home album -- was filmed in 2003. Street date is May 22.

British distributors Chelsea Films have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Spanish director Mateo Gil's (writer, Open Your Eyes, Agora) Blackthorn (2011), starring Sam Shepard, Eduardo Noriega, and Stephen Rea. Exact technical spec and region coding status for this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date set by the distributors is June 4th.

As part of its 100th Anniversary this year, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will offer special re-issues of selected catalog titles, and the Smokey and the Bandit Blu-ray will arrive in the June wave. Burt Reynolds (The Cannonball Run) stars in this action-comedy as a daredevil truck driver who accepts a challenge to transport 400 cases of beer from Texarkana to Atlanta. David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis Might Be Heading to Cannes

David Cronenberg's (Videodrome) highly anticipated new film Cosmopolis (2012) is apparently going to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival on May 23rd, while on May 31st it will arrive in Portugal. The new Cronenberg film is an adaptation of Don DeLillo's story about Eric Packer, a 28 year-old billionaire dreaming of living in a civilization ahead of this one.

This Must Be the Place Blu-ray

British distributors Trinity Home Entertainment have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Italian director Paolo Sorrentino's (The Family Friend, Il Divo) This Must Be The Place (2011), starring Sean Penn, Frances McDormand, Harry Dean Stanton, and David Byrne. Last year, the film won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Street date is August 27th.

As part of its 100th Anniversary, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will offer special Blu-rays of selected catalog titles, and The Sting should arrive in the June wave. Director George Roy Hill's crime comedy reunites Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid stars Robert Redford (Out of Africa) and Paul Newman (The Color of Money) as two con men in 1930s Chicago. The Sting is expected to street on June 5th.

Blu-ray Sales, Mar. 12-18: Tintin Tops Blu-rays

During its theatrical run, Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin proved surprisingly unpopular with U.S. audiences; the film grossed under $80 million domestically, a far cry from its near-$300 million international take. However, the animated feature made a strong initial showing on the home media market for the week that ended on March 18th, topping overall Blu-ray sales. Consumers purchased 50% of the title from the HD format.

Gaumont Secures Funding to Restore Classic Films

French distributors Gaumont have announced that they have secured funding to restore 270 films from their catalog during the next four years. The restorations will have a minimum quality of at least 2K. Amongst the films considered for restoration are such classics as Jean Renoir's Toni (1935), Henri-Georges Clouzot's The Murderer Lives at Number 21 (1942), and Carl Theodor Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928).

Lionsgate Acquires Distribution Rights to Saban's Power Rangers Samurai

Lionsgate announced that it has acquired the North American home entertainment distribution rights to the kids action series Saban's Power Rangers Samurai. Under the multi-year agreement, Lionsgate obtains all DVD and Blu-ray rights, as well as multiple digital rights for the newly revamped Power Rangers television series, Saban's Power Rangers Samurai and Saban's Power Rangers Super Samurai.

This summer, Warner Home Entertainment will continue transferring its library catalog onto the HD format. The studio will release Blu-rays for sixteen popular thrillers, including The Butterfly Effect, Coma, Hard to Kill, Next of Kin, Outland, and the Blu-ray debuts of Ken Russell's Altered States and Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets. These discs street on July 10th and July 17th.

Millennium Home Entertainment will bring Rampart to Blu-ray this summer. The newest collaboration from filmmaker Oren Moverman (I'm Not There) and actor Woody Harrelson (Natural Born Killers) since the Academy Award-nominated The Messenger, Rampart stars Harrelson as Dave Brown, a brutal cop playing by his own rules on the mean streets of Los Angeles. The film streets on May 15th.

The animated film looks to the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" song as inspiration for this fanciful adventure that finds the Fab Four battling the evil Blue Meanies in order to save Pepperland from their music-hating oppression.
