This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Sony Demos 4K OLED TV at CES

With 4K and OLED emerging as the trends du jour at CES this year, Sony leaped into the prototype pack earlier this week by demoing its own 4K OLED TV, a 56" stunner that wowed attendees and dropped its share of jaws. 4K OLED sets aren't about to grace the aisles of Best Buy anytime soon, but it's an exciting glimpse into a future full of possibilities.

French label Carlotta Films has revealed that it is planning to bring to Blu-ray two classic American films directed by Richard Fleischer: Violent Saturday (1955), starring Victor Mature, Richard Egan and Stephen McNally, and The Boston Strangler (1968), starring Tony Curtis, Henry Fonda and George Kennedy.

Disney Delays Four January 15th Catalog Titles

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has officially delayed the Blu-ray releases of While You Were Sleeping, A Lot Like Love, I Love Trouble and Keeping the Faith, previously scheduled to arrive on January 15th. New release dates have yet to be set and the reason for the last-minute delay is unknown.

For the week that ended on January 6th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment scored the top Blu-ray and overall package media sales with its release of Looper. Filmmaker Rian Johnson's twisty, viscerally engaging science-fiction tale garnered strong critical and popular notices when it made its theatrical premiere last September - the modestly budgeted feature (it cost an estimated $30 million) grossed over $166 million worldwide.

Ratpack Films will bring to UK cinemas Reign of Assassins, co-directed by John Woo (Red Cliff, Face/Off) and Su Chao-pin (Silk) and produced by Terence Chang (Woo's regular producer). Steven Spielberg's Lincoln led the pack with twelve nods this morning when the 85th Annual Academy Awards nominations were announced by Emma Stone and Seth McFarlane. Ang Lee's The Life of Pi came in a close second with eleven, while Silver Linings Playbook, Les Miserables, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild and Django Unchained also made impressive showings.
