Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company have officially announced the Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet Combo Pack release of writer/director Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, which stars Jamie Foxx, Academy Award-winning Best Supporting Actor Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, James Remar and Walton Goggins. The winner of two Oscars, including Best Original Screenplay, Django Unchained streets on April 16th.
Synopsis: Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained tells the story of Django (Foxx), a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles, dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago. Django and Schultz's search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of Candyland, an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival.
Django Unchained was nominated for a total of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing. The film also won two Golden Globe awards for Best Screenplay and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Waltz). It was nominated for a total of five Golden Globes, among them Best Motion Picture, Best Director and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (DiCaprio).
The Blu-ray release of Django Unchained features the film's 166-minute theatrical cut, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track, and both a DVD and UltraViolet digital copy. Special features have yet to be detailed.
