This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Studios plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Michael Bay's The Rock (1996) with a new combo pack release, which is expected to arrive on the market before the end of the year.

Cohen Media Group Acquires Breathe In

Cohen Media Group has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Drake Doremus' drama Breathe In (2013), starring Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Mackenzie Davis, and Kyle MacLachlan. The film will open in theaters across the nation in the fourth quarter.

For the week that ended on March 10th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Wreck-It Ralph scored the top position on the Blu-ray and overall package media lists. This CGI-animated comedy was a critical favorite last November despite a slightly underwhelming domestic gross of $187 million (on top of its $165 million budget).

However, the film, which has grossed more than $400 million worldwide so far, will be cut.

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for writer/director Jeff Wadlow's Kick Ass 2, based on the comicbook of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. The sequel stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular hero, Chloë Grace Moretz as Hit Girl, Jim Carrey as newcomer Colonel Stars and Stripes, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as returning villain Red Mist, and arrives in U.S. theaters on June 28th.

Warner Bros. has revealed that filmmaker Peter Jackson will be hosting a live, previously unannounced Q&A after the March 24th online preview of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The live event will be limited to holders of an UltraViolet code, available by purchasing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack on March 19th.
