The organizers of the 70th Venice Film Festival have announced that they will screen a new restoration of legendary Italian director Francesco Rosi's masterpiece Le mani sulla cittą a.k.a Hands Over the City (1963), starring Rod Steiger, Salvo Randone, and Guido Alberti. The film will be screened during the traditional Pre-opening event which is held in the historic city centre.
The new restoration of Hands Over the City will be introduced by Cineteca nazionale di Roma.
In 2012, the Venice Film Festival awarded Francesco Rosi the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
In the United States, Hands Over the City is currently available only on DVD, courtesy of The Criterion Collection. You can see our listing of this release here.
