Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Sony Plans Four Romantic Comedies for September (Update)

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring four romantic comedies - 'Can't Hardly Wait: 10 Year Reunion Edition', 'My Best Friend's Wedding', 'Maid in Manhattan', and 'Mona Lisa Smile' to Blu-ray on September 30th. Run Fatboy Run Coming to Blu-ray in the US

Warner Home Video in conjunction with New Line Home Entertainment have announced that they will bring the David Schwimmer-directed film 'Run Fatboy Run' to Blu-ray on September 23rd, day-and-date with the DVD release. The film will come on a BD-50 utilizing 1080p VC-1 video and a Dolby Digital soundtrack.

Transsiberian Announced for Blu-ray

First Look Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer film 'Transsiberian' to Blu-ray on November 4th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Attitude Flying Planned for Blu-ray Release

Fly Right Films, an Alaska-based studio, will bring their final product, an instructional aviation film called 'Attitude Flying' to Blu-ray later this fall after it debuts at Air Venture 2008. The films creators are hoping that this film will help prevent further aviation deaths by using their new method of instruction.

Blu-ray Sales Up 300%

Through the first half of the year, consumer spending on Blu-ray titles is up $200M or 300% from the same period last year. Studios, such as 20th Century Fox, are seeing approximately 8% of title sales in the Blu-ray format, with the expectation that it could rise to as much as 12% by the end of this year.

Blu-ray At Comic-Con 2008

While not traditionally a conference about films, many studios use the opportunity to communicate directly with comic fans regarding comic-based movie franchises.

Warner Reaffirms Dedication to Blu-ray Quality

Over the past few weeks, Warner Home Video has been absolutely pummeled by our forum members for the use of BD-25s and 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtracks on upcoming catalog releases. While there is nothing wrong with using BD-25s for some material, the length of these movies combined with the expansive amount of bonus features would certainly result in some loss in video quality.

Knocked Up and 40-Year-Old Virgin Specs Announced

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced the specs for the upcoming Blu-ray releases of Judd Apatow's 'Knocked Up' and 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin', both due to hit store shelves on September 30th. Available individually or as part of the 'Ultimate Unrated Comedy Collection' (along with the previously announced Blu-ray release of 'Sarah Marshall'), each disc will contain both the rated and unrated versions of the film.

Sukiyaki Western Django Coming to Blu-ray

First Look Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Takashi Miike film 'Sukiyaki Western Django' to Blu-ray on November 11th, day-and-date with the DVD release. SinoCES: Chinese Blu-ray Players Revealed Part 2

Following up on yesterday's post revealing a huge batch of Chinese Blu-ray Disc players, we have one more brochure and one more player to add to the list. You may recall that a little over a year ago, a Blu-ray Disc Player spotted on the Gowell's website, which at the time was huge being that the HD DVD group was adamantly searching for Chinese manufacturers. Well, today we have some new information from that same company, and three upcoming Blu-ray players.

Iron Man Blu-ray Slotted for September 30th

In an early announcement to the trades, Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring the superhero blockbuster hit 'Iron Man' to Blu-ray on September 30th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No additional technical specs of supplemental features have been announced at this time, but a full press release is expected soon.

Warner to Re-release A Christmas Story

Warner Home Video has announced that they will re-release the holiday film 'A Christmas Story' for Blu-ray on November 4th. This will be the same disc that will be found in the previously announced 'A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition', which due to hit store shelves on the same day, but in regular Blu-ray packaging.

Universal Announces Horror Trio for September

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Dawn of the Dead: Unrated Director's Cut' (2004), 'Land of the Dead: Unrated Director's Cut', and 'The Thing' to Blu-ray on September 30th. Available separtately, or part of a 'Halloween Starter Pack' box set, the titles will each come on a BD-25 with 1080p widescreen video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

SinoCES: Chinese Players Revealed

At the Chinese International Consumer Electronics Show (SinoCES) last week, many Chinese manufacturers were on the show floor displaying their latest products for Blu-ray. Not surprisingly, the majority of the products shown were Blu-ray Disc players, no doubt trying to get a foothold in the exploding Blu-ray market.

UFC Coming to Blu-ray

First Look Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'UFC: Ultimate Comebacks' to Blu-ray on November 18th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The program - which originally aired on Spike TV - features some of UFC's best fights between its most famous fighters. No technical specs or supplemental features have been announced at this time.

The Doors and Belly Special Features Revealed

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has revealed the supplemental features for the upcoming Blu-ray releases of 'The Doors' and 'Belly', both due to hit store shelves on August 12th. This week, film fans get another taste of classic cinema with the Blu-ray release of the now legendary Jack Nicholson film 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' from Warner Home Video. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Oliver Stone film 'Nixon: Election Year Edition' to Blu-ray on August 19th. The disc will feature a newly remastered director's cut of the film, and will be presented in 2.40:1 1080p AVC video accompanied by a 5.1 PCM soundtrack.

Speed Racer Announced for Blu-ray; The Matrix Next?

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the Wachowski brothers film 'Speed Racer' to Blu-ray on September 16th, day-and-date with the DVD release. This three-disc set will feature the main feature and supplemental features on the first disc, the DVD game "Speed Racer Crucible Challenge" on the second disc, and a digital copy of the film on the third disc - the last two being exclusive to the Blu-ray release.

Baraka Coming to Blu-ray

Various retailers have indicated that MPI Home Video will release the award-winning film 'Baraka' for Blu-ray on October 28th. The film presents a series of still photographs taken around the world. What makes this title unique is that it was filmed in the Todd-AO 70mm format which shares it history with legendary films such as 'Oklahoma!' and 'The Sound of Music'.

Warner Announces Five Action Blu-ray Titles for September (Update)

Various sources have indicated that Warner Home Video is set to announce five action Blu-ray titles, all due to hit store shelves on September 2nd. These titles include, 'Eraser', 'Outbreak', 'Under Siege 2', 'Every Which Way But Loose', and 'Gauntlet'. As these titles have not been officially announced, there are no known technical or special features. Watch for more info soon.

Palisades Acquires Most of Tartan UK Library

According to Home Media Magazine, Palisades, the company that just recently acquired the Tartan USA library, has acquired the majority of the Tartan UK library. While no solid Blu-ray plans were announced by the company, they are planning to start releasing DVDs from the popular Asia Extreme line of Tartan titles this fall, with Blu-ray releases soon to follow.

The Visitor Coming to Blu-ray

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the award-winning 'The Visitor' to Blu-ray on October 7th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time, but we do know that supplemental features for this title will include a featurette, a theatrical trailer and a "Playing the Djembe" video.

Stuck and More IMAX Titles Coming to Blu-ray

Retailers are reporting the Image Entertainment will bring the Mena Suvari film 'Stuck' to Blu-ray on October 7th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The following week, they are expected to release three IMAX titles - 'Coral Reef Adventure', 'Dolphins', and 'The Living Sea' to Blu-ray. Both 'Dolphins' and 'The Living Sea' were initially announced for April releases, but were delayed.

NEC Announces New Blu-ray SoC

NEC Electronics has finalized their new EMMA 3P SoC for Blu-ray playback, and are now shipping samples. The two-core chip - which features a 655MIPS 64-bit VR5500 and MIPS Technologies Inc's 457MIPS 32-bit CPU - supports dual-screen playback from all three approved Blu-ray video codecs.

Jeff Dunham Coming to Blu-ray

Image Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special' to Blu-ray this November, day-and-date with the DVD release and around the same time as the Comedy Central debut. The comedian - also known as "Jef-fa-fa Done Ham" - is best known for his hilarious ventriloquist work. No specs or special features have been announced at this time.

Halloween Box to Feature Blu-ray

Sources tell Shocktillyoudrop.com that Anchor Bay will soon announce a six-disc Halloween: 30th Anniversary box set. They are told that one of the discs will be a Blu-ray release of the film, presumably the same 'Halloween' Blu-ray release from last year. We'll post more information about this upcoming release as it becomes available.
