Since the early days of the format, Disney has been at the forefront of Blu-ray support, ensuring that consumers were able to purchase the best high definition home theater experience possible. Their critically acclaimed releases for films such as '
Pirates of the Caribbean' and '
Ratatouille', supported by a North American mall tour, shows a deep dedication to the format. Today, they give Blu-ray fans one more thing to cheer about - Disney animation in high definition.
When
I first saw the '
Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition' back in June, I knew that this would be a release for the ages. Nearly 50 years ago, Disney released this classic animated film onto theater screens, captivating audiences with its beautiful animation and whimsical soundtrack. For today's release, Disney has fully restored the animation - so that it looks better than it ever has - as well as finding the original audio recording in order to produce a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. This release truly deserves its platinum status.
This release also marks Disney's push to get Blu-ray into the mainstream. Captivating BD-Live features invite the viewer to explore further into the Disney Blu-ray experience. Movie Mail allows users to record a video and send it to friends and family. Movie Challenge puts you against other viewers to see how well you really know the film, while Movie Chat lets you discuss the film with other fans as you watch it.
