Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

U-Tech Media, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of pre-recorded Blu-ray media, has received several "urgent" orders from major Hollywood studios, according to industry sources. Sony DADC and Cinram combined represent 80% of total Blu-ray Disc movie production, but with Blu-ray Disc player prices continuing to drop, they are unable to fulfill demand and studios are forced to use smaller manufacturers such as U-Tech.

In an interview with DVD Review, director William Friedkin mentioned that, not only does he love Blu-ray, but he is also scheduled to begin work on a 'The Exorcist' Blu-ray on December 2nd. No extras were discussed, but with so much great material available for the legendary horror film, we can only imagine the possibilities. The release is currently scheduled for a Fall 2009.

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the Oscar-award winning/nominated films 'Amadeus: Director's Cut' and 'A History of Violence' to Blu-ray on February 10th. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition' to Blu-ray on March 10th, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. Video will be presented in 1080p AVC accompanied by a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. This two-disc Blu-ray set will also feature a bonus DVD of the film, similar to the recent 'Sleeping Beauty' Blu-ray release, for those who want a standard definition copy for the bedroom or car.

According to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, sales of Blu-ray Disc movies are on pace to double this year, reaching a revenue of $1 Billion. While DVD sales are suffering from the recent economic struggles, Blu-ray sales are outpacing most other consumer electronics products. Equally impressive is that the percentage of Blu-ray sales compared to DVD sales is also increasing.

Most of us found it weird when HBO announced 'Generation Kill' for a DVD release, but no Blu-ray release despite playing on HBO's HD channel. Research funded by the British Video Association (BVA) shows that, despite the recent global financial fiasco, uncontrollable unemployment, and rising bills, Blu-ray sales are better than ever. Year-to-date, sales of Blu-ray movies in the UK are up 396% and is just short of 1.5M units sold. Obviously, this is still very short of US sales, but it is a vast improvement from last years sales data.

Film Critic Roger Ebert recently reviewed a copy of the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Baraka', which is due to hit store shelves on October 28th.
