Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring four horror titles to Blu-ray under the Ghost House Underground label on October 6th, day-and-date with the DVD releases (see original post). The four titles - which include 'Seventh Moon', 'Offspring', 'The Thaw', and 'The Children' - were hand-picked by directors Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert.

Manga Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Shigurui: Death Frenzy - The Complete Series' to Blu-ray in the UK on August 17th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Paramount and Universal Announce iPhone Blu-ray Connectivity

Paramount Home Entertainment and Universal Home Entertainment have each announced plans on how they will merge future Blu-ray releases into the ever-growing iPhone world. For the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 2', Paramount will allow iPhone owners to download exclusive content as well as use their devise as a remote control. They have named this feature "Mobile Blu", a term, we predict, you will be hearing much more about in the future.

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection' to Blu-ray on September 22nd, day-and-date with the DVD release. This five-disc collection will include the films 'Star Trek VII: Generations', 'Star Trek VIII: First Contact', 'Star Trek IX: Insurrection' and 'Star Trek X: Nemesis'. For all four titles, video will be presented in 1080p AVC accompanied by 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.

More Rumors Regarding Future Toshiba Blu-ray Player

According to Japanese newspaper Yomiuri, Toshiba will release their first Blu-ray Disc Player - rumored to be named the BD-18 - by the end of this year. After admitted defeat in the high definition format war, Toshiba initially distanced itself from Blu-ray, with a promise to focus on their XDE DVD-upscaling technology. With those plans failing to gain consumer support, and a rumored $1B financial hole caused by the HD DVD failure, Toshiba now appears to be shifting support to its former rival.

Star Trek Blu-ray Full Details Revealed

After the appetizer given early this morning, Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed the full release details for 'Star Trek', which will hit store shelves on Blu-ray on November 17, day-and-date with DVD. It will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p with English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital with English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles. Over three hours of bonus materials will be included.

Criterion October Wave: Howards End, Monsoon Wedding, Wings of Desire (Update)

The Criterion Collection has just announced three very notable movies for release on Blu-ray: Mira Nair's 'Monsoon Wedding' will street on October 13, followed a week later by two other titles: James Ivory's 'Howards End' and Wim Wenders' 'Wings of Desire' (Der Himmel über Berlin) will hit store shelves on October 20.

Image Entertainment has announced a number of upcoming Blu-ray titles to be released between this November and January of next year. Legendary guitarist Steve Vai has announced the release of the concert film 'Where the Wild Things Are' on Blu-ray on September 29, day-and-date with the DVD and CD. This was recorded before a sold-out audience at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, in 2007 during Vai's Sound Theories world tour. No release details are available at this time.

Paramount Home Entertainment has set November 17 as the release date of the movie 'Star Trek' on Blu-ray, day-and-date with the DVD. This will be a three-disc set, and apart from other usual features, it will include a very novel one called “augmented reality,” allowing buyers to tour the Enterprise and even shoot enemies from the ship's deck, after holding the disc packaging in front of a webcam.
