TDK is set to demonstrate a 10-layer 320GB Blu-ray Disc at CEATEC in Japan
this week. The company was able to expand the capacity of each layer from
the standard 25GB to 32GB, and stack them them up to 10 layers thick while
using existing Blu-ray technology. TDK was able to do this by altering the
material of each layer to operate at higher efficiency.
After testing, TDK determined that the error rate met the threshold for wide-
spread use, and are currently determining commercial viability for the product.
