Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

SCEE Gamescom Conference Blu-ray Summary

Like most individual-based sports, boxing is defined by its stars - those men and women who can dominate their opponents with a combination of flawless technique and debilitating power. Somewhat unique to boxing is the need for the stars to win the hearts and minds of multiple governing organizations in order to hold a unified and "undisputed" title. Of the relatively few who have held such a title, Mike Tyson is easily the most controversial, and as the Blu-ray release of 'Tyson' shows, sometimes rightfully so.

Kmart Says "New Exciting" PS3 is Real (Update: Slim Preorder is Up)

The website of Sears-owned retailer Kmart sports today a promotional banner reading, "The rumors are reality – New Low Price & A New Exciting Playstation 3." There is no further information at this time, but it definitely seems that a new PS3 model is coming up, although it may or may not be the fabled slim console. Update: a preorder for a $299.99 slim PS3 is now up.

Geek Peek: Terminator Salvation British Skull and French Bike

It seems that Europe loves special packaging. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing 'Terminator Salvation' on Blu-ray in two very collectible editions: the UK is getting a Skull Box edition, whereas France is getting an exclusive limited edition with motorcycle (exclusive to Amazon.fr).

Asda Discounts 80GB PS3 in the UK

UK-based ASDA, a subsidiary of the retailing giant Walmart, has started to offer the 80GB PS3 console for as little as £250 with the film 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines' on Blu-ray, and two games: Terminator Salvation, plus either Ghostbusters or Infamous. This offer is valid in-store only, until stock runs out.

The Prisoner BD Announced for September in the UK

UK studio Network is entering the Blu-ray arena with its announcement of the release of the cult 1960s TV series 'The Prisoner' on BD for September 28. The series will be available in a six-disc limited edition box set. As we reported back in June, this title will also be released in the US by A&E on October 27, but edition details may differ.

Retailer Leaks October Release Date for Transformers 2 BD

'Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen' might be closer than we thought. One of our eagle-eyed forum members walked into his local FYE store and spotted a poster informing that the movie would be out on DVD and Blu-ray on October 20. Of course, this must be considered unofficial and tentative until there is an official announcement by the studio. No other release details are available at this time.

Transformers 2 UK Blu-ray on November 30th

A tentative November 30th release date has been given for the upcoming UK Blu-ray release of Paramount Home Entertainment's 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'. The 3-disc Blu-ray set will likely feature a digital copy and/or DVD copy of the film as one of the discs along with a massive amount of extra content.

Fight Club Details Revealed

Even though it is still not officially announced, our friends over at The Digital Bits have the scoop on the special features that the Blu-ray of 'Fight Club' will include when it releases on November 17. At first sight, it seems that most if not all of the bonus content present in the two-disc DVD will be on the Blu-ray.

Michael Mann Recuts Heat for Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has revealed the full details for its Blu-ray release of 'Heat'. As expected, the special features include all the content available on the 2005 two-disc edition, but there is something new. The Blu-ray will feature "New content changes supervised by director Michael Mann." The exact nature of those "changes" is unconfirmed, but the Blu-ray release lists a running time of 170 minutes, It can be noted that, whereas the previous DVD versions were 172 minutes long.

Clerks, Chasing Amy Get November Release Date

Two early Kevin Smith movies have now a release date on Blu-ray. As we reported a month ago, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is releasing 'Clerks' and 'Chasing Amy' on BD on November 17, according to information from retailers. A Kevin Smith Box Set, including the two aforementioned movies plus 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back', is also up for preorder. Release details are still to be confirmed.

Leonard Cohen's Isle of Wight Concert on Blu-ray

Legacy Recordings, a subsidiary of Sony Music, is releasing 'Leonard Cohen: Live from the Isle of Wight' on Blu-ray on October 20, with the performance that the Canadian singer-songwriter gave at the mammoth 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. There are no AV specifications available; as to features, it will include newly-shot interviews with Kris Kristofferson, Joan Baez, and Judy Collins. This BD will be an Amazon exclusive.

Woody Allen's Whatever Works Blu-ray Announced

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of Woody Allen's latest movie, 'Whatever Works', for October 27, day-and-date with the DVD. This movie marks Allen's return to New York, after directing three movies in Britain and one in Spain. In keeping with the filmmaker's hatred of bonus materials, no special features have been announced for this title.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 Blu-ray Announced

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced 'The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3' for November 3, day-and-date with the DVD. Note that this is the 2009 version of the thriller, directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta. The movie will be presented in 2.40:1 AVC, accompanied by English, French (Canadian), Spanish (Castilian) and Catalan soundtracks.

Night of the Creeps BD Pushed One Week

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that the campy thriller 'Night of the Creeps', originally slated for October 20, will be delayed by a week and thus will street on October 27 (still in time for Halloween) Edition details stay unchanged: it will present the director's cut of the movie, in 1.85:1 AVC accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. This will be the audio codec used by Sony from now on, after considering the results of the poll held on our forum.

Criterion Announces Gomorrah on Blu-ray

The Criterion Collection has announced that it will release 'Gomorrah' on Blu-ray on November 24, day-and-date with the DVD. 'Gomorrah' is an unglamorized, multi-faceted exposé of the Camorra, the crime underworld in Naples. It won the Grand Prize at Cannes Film Festival. The BD will feature a new high-definition transfer, supervised and approved by director Matteo Garrone, with an uncompressed stereo soundtrack.

The Proposal Announced for Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds comedy 'The Proposal' to Blu-ray on October 13th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Coming in both two and single disc releases (the two-disc version including a digital copy), video will be presented in 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Mamma Mia! Gift Set Announced for Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will re-release the popular musical 'Mamma Mia!' as a Blu-ray gift set on November 10th, day-and-date with the DVD Gift Set. When released, the 'Mamma Mia! The Movie - Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! More Blu-ray Gift Set' will feature the same disc as the previous Blu-ray release packaged with a music CD soundtrack and 32-page collectible book.

Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side BD

On his Twitter feed, Seth McFarlane has informed that 'Something Something Something Dark Side' (the 'Family Guy' spoof of 'The Empire Strikes Back' and sequel to 'Blue Harvest') will be released on Blu-ray on December 22, day-and-date with the DVD. No release details are available at this time, but the title is already up for preorder.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of the 1947 Christmas classic 'Miracle on 34th Street', which is scheduled to hit store shelves on October 6th. Also released that same day on Blu-ray will be the 1994 remake of 'Miracle on 34th Street' from writer John Hughes.

Blood: The Last Vampire Anime Blu-ray for the UK

British studio Manga has announced that it will release 'Blood: The Last Vampire' on Blu-ray on October 12. This is the original anime film which served as inspiration for a live-action movie (also announced on Blu-ray in the UK and the US for October). Audio options will be multichannel DTS-HD and stereo. There is no information on region encoding.

You don't talk about it, but an early announcement to retailers indicates that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is set to release David Fincher's thematically controversial and visually arresting movie 'Fight Club' on Blu-ray on November 17. There is no information on audio/video specifications or special features at this stage.

Trick 'r Treat Blu-ray for October

Warner Home Video has announced that it will release 'Trick 'r Treat' on Blu-ray on October 6, day-and-date with the DVD. This horror anthology movie has been repeatedly shown at film festivals since late 2007, but never had a theatrical release. It will be presented in 2.35:1 VC-1 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby Digital audio, and will include a Digital Copy.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of Ron Howard's 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas', starring Jim Carrey, for October 13, on a BD/DVD combo edition. The movie will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p video, accompanied by a 5.1 English DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, and English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Harry Potter Films to Get Extended Versions

The Harry Potter films could be rereleased on extended Blu-ray editions in the near future. After a recent MPAA bulletin of rated films listed an extended version of 'Harry Potter of the Sorcerer's Stone', film site Rope of Silicon contacted a Warner Brothers representative, who confirmed that "all Harry Potter films are being planned to get special upcoming releases", although no announcement has been made yet.

Blu-ray Replication to Begin in Brazil

Brazilian company Microservice has announced that it has acquired BLULINE II replication lines from Singulus, and that it will shortly be able to make both dual and single-layer Blu-ray discs (although no specific schedules were disclosed). Thus, Microservice will become the first company in South America to manufacture BDs.

Rumor: Slim PS3 Announcement Next Tuesday

British electronics site Pocket-Lint reports today that its "sources" have confirmed that the slim PS3 is a reality and that Sony will announce it next week. Specifically, it will be officially announced by SCEI chief Kaz Hirai during the press conference that will be held next Tuesday evening (Europe time) at the GamesCom gaming conference in Cologne, Germany.

In its second week on shelves, 'Fast & Furious' remained the top-selling Blu-ray for the week ended August 9, according to data from Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. 'Race to Witch Mountain', which was the number-one title of the week on DVD, only managed a second place on BD, although sales volumes for both titles were very close.
