Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Murnau's Sunrise Coming to Blu-ray in the UK

Eureka Entertainment is bringing to Blu-ray one of the undisputed masterpieces of silent cinema: F.W. Murnau's 'Sunrise', which will hit British store shelves on September 21. Part of the studio's Masters of Cinema line, this release will include restored high-definition transfers of two different versions: the U.S. Movietone version and an alternate silent Czech version, recently discovered. The disc is reported to be region-free.

Disney to Extend BD/DVD Combos Worldwide

Following positive feedback and response to surveys, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced the extension of its Blu-ray Combo Pack initiatives worldwide. From now on through December 2010, all Disney-branded titles in all regions will be available as Blu-ray/DVD combo editions.

Highlander Season One Blu-ray Coming Up

The BD edition of 'Highlander: Season One', which had originally been announced for February 15 and then delayed, will finally see the light on September 15. It will contain over 220 minutes of bonus features, including BD-Live for smartphones, which allows you to access features from your iPhone, Blackberry or other smartphone.

3-D for Blu-ray Is Just Around the Corner

Movie studios are close to an agreement on the final format for 3-D Blu-ray, according to Yoshinami Takahashi, deputy senior general manager of Sony Corporation's home entertainment group. According to Takahashi, the specification will probably be adopted before the end of 2009, and discs and players with 3-D will then launch in late 2010.

Sony Announces Three Blu-ray Players for Australia

Sony has announced three new Blu-ray players for the Australian market, with model numbers BDP-S360, BDP-S560 and BDP-S760. Details for the two first models are similar to their US versions, with BD-Live support and 1080p video on both of them, and wireless connectivity on the BDP-S560. The BDP- S760, in turn, is positioned as a flagship model.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a franchise in the purest form. Whether in comic book, video game, or - as the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Film Collection' captures - film form, the four talking turtles always used their advanced ninja skills to stop the bad guy in humorous fashion. Amazon has started another of its "Buy Two, Get One Free" Blu-ray sales. If you add three eligible titles to the cart, the one with the lowest price will be free. As of this writing, there are 347 titles in the sale, which can be browsed as a whole or by genre. This offer will expire on August 21.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: A Very Sunny Christmas' for release on Blu-ray on November 17, day-and-date with the DVD. Rumor: Slim PS3 Will be €100 Cheaper

We're back to the rumor that won't die. After the alleged spy shots, after the short-lived placeholder on Amazon Germany, now an unnamed French games retailer has confirmed that the Slim PS3 exists and is coming. Not only that, but there is pricing information: it will retail in France for 299.99 euros, that is, 100 euros less than the current console.

Tarantino Talks Kill Bill Whole Bloody Affair, Grindhouse BDs

During the promotion of 'Inglourious Basterds,' Quentin Tarantino has told reporters that once his job with this film is done he plans to revisit and expand two of his movies, including a final 'Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair" and eventually the theatrical experience of 'Grindhouse', with a view to an eventual Blu-ray release.

Five Blu-ray Titles from FUNimation

In an early announcement to retailers, it has been revealed that FUNimation Entertainment is set to release four anime titles and one live-action movie later this year: 'Tsubasa Season One' on November 10; 'Gunslinger Girl: Season One' on December 1; 'Samurai Champloo: The Complete Collection' and 'Basilisk: The Complete Collection' on December 15; and 'Ichi: The Movie' on December 29.

Knowing Takes BD First Place in the UK

The science-fiction Nicolas Cage vehicle 'Knowing' was the top-selling title on Blu-ray during the week ended August 9, according to data released by the British Video Association. The previous week's number one, 'Watchmen', dropped to second place. Places three and four were taken by two horror movies from Momentum Pictures: 'Let the Right One In' and 'Lesbian Vampire Killers'.

Toshiba Exec: "The Time for Blu-ray Is Coming Now"

Apple has long dragged its feet when it comes to Blu-ray, but that might be about to change. According to news site Boy Genius Report, BD support is one of the features being added to iTunes 9. Additionally, a recent post on Apple Insider reports about Apple integrating Blu-ray into their new iMac line-up.

BD Sales Information: July 27-August 2 (Update 2)

The four-wheel-action sequel 'Fast & Furious' was the top-selling title on Blu- ray on the week ended August 2, according to data from Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. 'Fast & Furious' showed surprising strength on BD, outselling the number one from the previous week, 'Watchmen', by nearly three to one. The first instalment of the franchise, 'The Fast and the Furious', now available separately, also made a respectable sixth place.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release Dennis Hopper's 'Easy Rider' on Blu-ray on October 20. 'Easy Rider' is a landmark counterculture film, encompassing many of the themes and issues of late-1960s America. The movie will be presented in 1.85:1 AVC with 5.1 or mono audio, in the now-common booklet edition.

Toshiba Applies for BDA Membership

Toshiba Corporation announced today that the company has applied for membership of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), and plans to introduce products that support the Blu-ray format, including BD players and notebook PCs integrating BD drives, in the course of this year. When Toshiba conceded defeat in the format war in February 2008, it reiterated that it would not make any Blu-ray products – until June 2009, when the Toshiba president hinted at future BD support.

On that same day, they will also release 'Monster's Inc' on Blu-ray after delaying the title earlier this year. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced that the upcoming Blu-ray releases of 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein' and 'Wolf' have been pushed up to an October 6th release date. Additionally, Sony will package the two new catalog releases along with 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' into a 'Wolf / Dracula / Frankenstein Box Set'.
