Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of Paul, the 2011 science fiction comedy directed by Greg Mottola. The film follows two comic book geeks (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) and their encounter with a foul-mouthed alien (voiced by Seth Rogen). A street date of August 9th has been set.

Soul Surfer Blu-ray

On August 2nd, 2011, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Soul Surfer on Blu-ray. One of the spring's sleeper hits, Soul Surfer is the true-life story of Bethany Hamilton, a teen surfer whose determination and faith helped her compete on the international surfing circuit after losing an arm in a shark attack. The film stars Helen Hunt (Trancers), Dennis Quaid (The Rookie), and AnnaSophia Robb (Bridge to Terabithia) as Bethany.

June 11th marks the 25th anniversary of John Hughes' timeless teen comedy, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Paramount has revealed a re-package of the Bueller... Bueller... Edition Blu-ray will hit shelves August 2nd, ending speculation that an all new 25th Anniversary Edition of the film is in the works.

National Geographic Entertainment have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray Sherry Hormann's Desert Flower (2009), starring Liya Kebede (In the Woods), Sally Hawkins (Made in Dagenham), Craig Parkinson (Control), and Meera Syal (TV's The Kumars at No. 42). Street date is July 19th.

Brotherhood of the Wolf Heading to the UK

After having been announced for Blu-ray release in 2009 but consequently canceled, Gallic helmer Christophe Gans' Le Pacte de loups a.k.a Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) will finally see a Blu-ray release in the UK, courtesy of local distributors Optimum Home Entertainment. Street date is August 22.

Advance Screening of The Lion King 3D to Be Held at D23 Expo

Wake Wood Blu-ray

This summer, Hammer and MPI/Dark Sky Films bring Wake Wood to Blu-ray. The story of dark forces that appear when a distraught husband and wife try to resurrect their dead daughter in the titular Irish community, Wake Wood stars Aiden Gillen ("The Wire") and Timothy Spall (The King's Speech). MPI/Dark Sky Films will distribute the Blu-ray on July 5, 2011.

Weekend Box Office: "X-Men: First Class's" Haul Not-So-Marvelous

This weekend was unusual for the summer-of-2011, in that there was only one big studio release storming the multiplexes. That film, Fox's outstandingly fun X-Men: First Class should have cleaned up. Instead, it disappointed. But maybe the executives at Fox have a superpower for "unrealistic expectations?"

Kubrick Blu-ray Anniversary Editions in 2012

One week following its Blu-ray release of the Stanley Kubrick Limited Edition Collection, Warner Home Entertainment has announced that two of Kubrick's most beloved titles, 1962's Lolita and 1987's Full Metal Jacket, will receive deluxe Blu-ray treatment in 2012, just in time for Lolita's 50th anniversary and Full Metal Jacket's 25th anniversary.

Scarface, Jurassic Park Trilogy Blu-ray in 2011 (Updated)

During an extended interview with French site Ecranlarge.com, Eric Legay, marketing director for Universal France, revealed some of the catalog movies that the studio intends to release on Blu-ray in 2011, which prominently include the Jurassic Park trilogy and Brian DePalma's Scarface, along with some westerns and more Hitchcock.

Jurassic Park Trilogy For 2011 Release Confirmed (Updated)

Spanish website ZonaDVD has reported that Universal's Jurassic Park series will be initially released to the international market as a trilogy in three different editions. Apart from the standard edition there would also be a tin case edition and a collector's box-set which would include a T-Rex figure. ZonaDVD reports a provisional release date of October 24th which would seem to indicate the date of the UK release.

Spielberg Confirms Jaws Blu-ray is on the Way

In an interview with Ain't It Cool News, Steven Spielberg confirmed that work on the Blu-ray edition of his 1975 thriller has in fact begun. While no release date has been set, Spielberg did offer some encouraging words for film purists.

MGM Catalog Titles on Blu-ray

This August, MGM and Fox Home Entertainment will release single-film editions of A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Magnificent Seven, and Return of the Seven on Blu-ray. These titles were previously available only as Target Exclusives or as part of The Man with No Name Trilogy and The Magnificent Seven Collection, respectively; the individual titles street on August 2nd, 2011.

Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil 3D Blu-ray and Blu-ray

Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company have announced that Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil will get a Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray release on August 16th. Similar to the Disney releases, the 3D 4-pack will include 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital versions of the film. A standard Blu-ray and DVD combo pack will also be released. These have been priced at $39.99 and $34.99 respectively.

The Frighteners: 15th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray

Peter Jackson's 1996 horror/comedy The Frighteners has been announced for Blu-ray by Universal. The 15th Anniversary Edition will feature the theatrical version as well as Jackson's director's cut, which adds an additional 23 minutes. A release date has been set for September 13th.

David Holzman's Diary Blu-ray Coming Up

In an early announcement to retailers, Kino Video and Lorber Films have revealed they will release on Blu-ray Jim McBride's David Holzman's Diary (1967), which is currently available only on SDVD, through independent British distributors Second Run. Technical specs and region coding status for this release are unknown at the moment.
