Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Humphrey Bogart Film Festival Created

The Humphrey Bogart Estate and the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce have created an annual Humphrey Bogart Film Festival. Starting next May in Key Largo, Florida, 65 years after the premiere of the Bogie-Bacall classic by the same name, Stephen Humphrey Bogart will host an annual celebration of the life and movies of his father, iconic tough guy Humphrey Bogart.

Samsara Blu-ray

Arrow Films and Spirit Entertainment have revealed that they are planning to release a Double Play edition of Ron Fricke's Samsara (2011). Samsara is one of only a handful of feature films, including its predecessor Baraka, to be shot in the 70mm format in the last forty years. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is December 26th.

After three profitable weeks, the smash hit The Hunger Games finally fell from the number one spot on the Blu-ray and overall package media charts, and taking its place was Universal Studios' sci-fi blockbuster Battleship, director Peter Berg's adaptation of the iconic Hasbro board game. Battleship's small-screen debut at the top came on the heels of a disappointing theatrical gross of only $65 million domestically.

Takeshi Kitano Ready to Shoot Yet Another Outrage Movie

Japanese superstar and director Takeshi Kitano is apparently contemplating shooting a third Outrage film. The first film was a massive box office success in Japan in 2010. Its sequel, Outrage Beyond, was nominated for the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival, and is due out at home in more than 200 theaters later this year.

The Dark Knight Rises Crosses $100 Million Milestone In IMAX Theaters

Warner Brothers announced today that Christopher Nolan's blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises has passed the $100 million global box office mark in 557 IMAX theatres worldwide after its 7th week of release. The film is expected to arrive on Blu-ray later this year.

Michael Haneke's Amour Selected to Represent Austria at the Oscars

Austria has chosen Michael Haneke's Amour, which won the prestigious Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, to represent it at next year's foreign language Oscars. This week sees the release for an enduring cult classic: Re-Animator. Based on a story from author H.P. Lovecraft, this horror film takes a graphically perverse look at medical student Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) and his attempts to bring the dead back to life. What really sets Re-Animator apart, however, isn't the gore - though it is plentiful - but rather the picture's irreverent sense of humor.

Recall and Delay: Arachnophobia & The Great Mouse Detective

The Blu-ray release of Arachnophobia, which was due to hit store shelves on September 4, has been delayed to September 25, 2012 so that Disney can address "encoding issues" with the disc. The Great Mouse Detective has also been delayed to October 9, 2012, although the reason for that delay hasn't been clarified. Retailers have been asked to return all current stock so new copies can be issued later this month.
