Blu-ray Sales: August 9-15: Project Hail Mary Fends Off Mars Attacks! in First Week

For the week that ended on August 15th, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts in its debut. Second place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Mars Attacks!, which was released on 4K UHD this week, while third place went to Warner's own Mortal Kombat II in its third week.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 24-30

For the week of August 24th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment will release Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu on Blu-ray and 4K UHD. Other new releases include Disclosure Day from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, The Sheep Detectives from Alliance Entertainment, Abraham's Boys: A Dracula Story from Shudder, Carolina Caroline from Magnolia Home Entertainment, Reacher: Season Three from Paramount Home Media Distribution, Father Mother Sister Brother from MUBI, Power Ballad from Lionsgate Home Entertainment, The Breadwinner from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and The Audacity: Season 1 from AMC Studios.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

British label Anime Ltd. has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray Makoto Shinkai's animated film Your Name (2016), featuring the voices of Ryūnosuke Kamiki, Mone Kamishiraishi, Masami Nagasawa, Etsuko Ichihara, and Aoi Yūki. The release will be available for purchase on November 6.

The Warner Archive Collection has announced its Blu-ray line-up for October 2017. Film titles are: Superman: The Movie (1978), in an extended version created for TV, with over 40 minutes of additional footage; The Hidden (1987); The Sea Wolf (1941), which has been restored to its original theatrical running time; The Green Slime (1968); Hell on Frisco Bay (1955); Night School (1981); and Scarecrow (1973). TV titles are: iZombie, Season 3; and The Leftovers, Season 3.

For the week that ended on September 9th, Marvel and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 again stood at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. The sequel to 2014's hit superhero adventure Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 proved a healthy success in its own right, grossing over $862 million worldwide on top of its estimated $200-million production budget.

Criterion Announces December Titles

The Criterion Collection has announced that it will add three new titles to its Blu-ray catalog in December: Election (1999), Général Idi Amin Dada: A Self Portrait (1974), and The Complete Monterey Pop Festival (1968-1986). Earlier this summer, the label also announced that in December it will release on Blu-ray 100 Years of Olympic Films: 1912-2012, a landmark collector's set featuring fifty-three films from a century of Olympic Games presented together for the first time, as well as a lavishly illustrated, 216-page book.
