Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Coney Island Comes to Blu-ray

Starz Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Went to Coney Island On a Mission From God... Be Back By Five' to Blu-ray on January 15th. Failing at the box office and having received mix reviews, this is definitely an odd title to bring to high definition. No specs or supplementals have been announced at this time.

Spider-Man 3 Easily Becomes Sony's Top Seller

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that 'Spider-Man 3' has become their best selling Blu-ray title to date. Final numbers are a few days away, but it appears that the web-slinging hero managed to surpass sales of Sony's longtime Blu-ray golden-child 'Casino Royale' in its first week of sales.

Dragon Wars Flies onto Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Dragon Wars' to Blu-ray on January 8th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 2.40:1 1080p and feature a PCM audio track. Extras will include a "500 Years in the Making" featurette, along with an animatics feature and a photo gallery.

Specs Announced for Rent Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Rent', which is due to hit store shelves December 11th. Video will be encoded using 1080p AVC and feature both PCM and Dolby TrueHD audio tracks at 24-bit clarity. The Blu-ray will also feature every extra from the 2-disc DVD release, including audio commentary, the 6-part documentary "No Day Like Today", deleted scenes and two public service announcements.

Shakira Concert Coming to Blu-ray

Sony BMG has announced that they will bring 'Shakira: Live Concert' to Blu-ray on December 18th. The disc will feature a performance from her recent "Oral Fixation Tour" in 1080p AVC and featuring a 5.1 PCM audio track. Besides the 16 songs from the performance, fans will also be treated with a documentary, behind-the-scenes featurette, three bonus videos and six bonus audio tracks.

3:10 to Yuma Announced

Confirming recent retailer listings of the title, Lionsgate has announced (via Home Media Magazine) that they will bring '3:10 to Yuma' to Blu-ray on January 8th. No specs or extras have been announced at this time, but if recent Lionsgate titles are any example, this will be a packed title featuring the latest and greatest Blu-ray advances.

Blu-ray Festival: Fox Studios

At the conclusion of the BDA Breakfast, we were taken to Fox Studios to learn more about what the iconic studio was achieving with their Blu-ray releases. As we arrived, we saw Fox Plaza, which is more widely known for its use as Nakatomi Plaza in the first Die Hard film. This, ironically, was the perfect introduction for the next few hours as Fox presented many highly-anticipated films from their extensive catalog.

Blu-ray Festival: BDA Breakfast

The first event of the Blu-ray Festival was a breakfast hosted by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). The event was focused on bringing together executives from Blu-ray companies with the reporters who write about them. Andy Parsons, Senior Vice President, Product Planning, Home Entertainment & Business Solutions Division for Pioneer and Chair of the US Promotion Committee for the BDA, welcomed everyone and went on to explain some of the accomplishments Blu-ray has achieved so far.

Blu-ray Festival: Introduction

Buena Vista Home Entertainment invited journalists from around the country to The Blu-ray Festival in order to convey where Blu-ray is today, and where the Blu-ray Disc Association would like it to be in the future. Asked to represent Blu-ray.com, News Editor Josh Dreuth and Review Editor Ben Williams were sent to Hollywood to cover the two-day event, and over the next few days we will be posting our report.

Criteria Displays New Blu-ray Set-up for Nautical Applications

Criteria Marine was displaying their new Blu-ray set-ups for nautical applications at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this past weekend, and Blu-ray.com Forum Member TruBlu2 was there to take some photos of the display and talk to the representatives working the event. Warner Considering Blu Exclusivity

At the Blu-ray Festival earlier this week, Dan Silverberg, VP of High-Definition Media for Warner Home Video, revealed that Warner may have to re-evaluate their neutral position regarding high definition releases. He commented, "Now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu-ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide - so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter."

Bonus View Gets Official Nod

Senior VP of Product Planning at Pioneer and Chair of the BDA Promotions Committee Andy Parsons confirmed on Monday that the profile previously known as "Profile v1.1" or "Full Profile" shall henceforth be known as "Bonus View". The move was made to ease consumer confusion regarding the recent change in Blu-ray requirements as new "Bonus View" titles like Lionsgate's 'War' and Fox's 'Sunshine' get launched early next year.

Twister Gets Delayed

Warner Home Video has announced that the Blu-ray release of 'Twister' has been delayed until May 6th. Originally scheduled to be released on January 8th, no reason was given for the delay by Warner. No special features have been announced for the title at this time, but hopefully the delay will result in some extra features being added to the title.

Rogers Video Adds Blu-ray Rentals

In response to consumer demand, Rogers Video has announced that they have added Blu-ray rentals to over 250 retail stores across Canada. These titles will also be featured in their recently launched "Star Rewards" program, which provides free movies based on points acquired. The stores will feature films from all Blu-ray studios.

Ganges Announced for Blu-ray

BBC Home Entertainment has announced that they are bringing 'Ganges' to Blu-ray this January. The title, which will be released on a BD-25 featuring VC-1 encoding, tells the story of one of the most extraordinary rivers in the world. No special features have been announced at this time.

Life of Brian Re-Announced

Featuring a host of new special features, including a newly-discovered cast-reading, this title truly is the "Immaculate Edition".

Good Luck Chuck Announced for Blu-ray

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring the Dane Cook and Jessica Alba comedy 'Good Luck Chuck' to Blu-ray on January 15th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No specs or special features have been announced at this time, but we do know the Blu-ray will feature an unrated cut of the film.

I, Robot Delayed

Fox Home Entertainment has revealed that the highly anticipated Blu-ray release of I, Robot has been delayed until 2008. It will be worth the wait, however, as many special features are being planned for the title. Blu-ray.com received a screening of the title on Monday, and we are happy to report that the presentation is excellent, and the special features provide a unique experience.

SlySoft Claims To Have Cracked BD+

SlySoft CEO Giancarlo Bettini has revealed that the upcoming version of their AnyDVD software will have the ability to crack the BD+ DRM which Fox uses on many new releases. It is yet to be seen how the software works, or what will happen to your player once the DRM is removed, but it should prove interesting to see how Fox reacts to this latest news.

Buick Enclave Gets Blu-ray Treatment

NBA-veteran Jerome Williams has teamed up with Buick to customize a Buick Enclave for the 2007 SEMA Show which he has named the "Urban CEO Edition". The vehicle features a Blu-ray disc player connected to four 10 inch LCD screens and one 7 inch LCD screen, allowing passengers (and hopefully not the driver) to watch high definition movies on the go.

Do You "Do Blu"?

The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has announced a new ad campaign focused on the slogan "I Do Blu". Featuring a host of upcoming Blu-ray titles sure to peak the interests of consumers, the ad first ran during the final game of the World Series on Monday. The campaign is expected to continue through the holidays on both TV, print, and radio.

Midway Ships Stanglehold to US Retailers

Midway Games has announced that after a long delay, it has shipped John Woo's PS3 game 'Stranglehold' to retailers. What makes this video game unique, is that the "Collector's Edition" features a high definition version of John Woo's critically acclaimed action film 'Hard Boiled', the first of his films to be released in HD. Unfortunately, the movie will only be playable on a PS3.

Fujitsu Announces Blu-ray LifeBook Down-Under

Fujitsu PC Australia has announced the first LifeBook to feature a Blu-ray drive. The LifeBook N6460, which is expected to retail at A$5,299, features a unique Visual Optimizer which allows users to toggle brightness on their screen based on if they are watching a movie or doing work. Other specs replicate most top-of-the-line laptops.

Superman and Justice League Get Annimated on Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has revealed that they will release two animated features for Blu-ray on February 26th. 'Justice League: The New Frontier' will be released day-and-date with the new DVD release and 'Superman: Doomsday', which was released on DVD earlier this year, will also be released on the same day. No specs or extras features have been announced at this time.

The Game Plan and Tinkerbell Announced

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced that they are planning to bring 'The Game Plan' and 'Tinkerbell' to Blu-ray in 2008. 'The Game Plan', which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, is set to be released on January 22nd and will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p video with PCM 5.1 24-bit audio. Extras include deleted scenes, bloopers, and a Blu-ray exclusive "Chalk Talk" commentary feature.

Fox Announces Blu-ray Release of Sunshine for Jan 8

Fox made things official today by announcing a January 8, 2008 release date for Danny Boyle's sci-fi thriller Sunshine. The editorial staff of Blu-ray.com was treated to a preview of this title while on a visit to Fox Studios at the Blu-ray Festival in Los Angeles earlier this week. Expect the title to include true Profile 1.1 PiP content along with a slew of exciting extras. Fox also demonstrated a new customized surround sound feature that should appear on this disc.

Panasonic First to Market with Profile 1.1 Player

Panasonic, a leader in High Definition technology, announced today the introduction of the DMP-BD30, the next generation High Definition 1080p Blu-ray Disc player. The DMP-BD30 is the first Blu-ray player to be introduced with Final Standard Profile, which adds a variety of new and enhanced features to the Blu-ray arena and one that separates the Panasonic Blu-ray player from the rest of the field.

New Line Home Entertainment has announced that it will bring the Billy Bob Thornton comedy 'Mr. Woodcock' to Blu-ray on January 15th, day-and-date with the DVD release. As a new release, it will remain Blu-ray exclusive until the international theatrical run expires sometime next year. No specs have been announced at this time.
