Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Samsung BD-P2500 BD-Live Player Coming Soon

Samsung is set to release a new BD-Live player this September. The Samsung BD-P2500 is reported to feature an HQV video processor for optimal DVD upconversion, and decoding support for both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. For those of you without HDMI receivers, the player will feature 7.1 analog outs.

Universal Announces Blu-ray Date for Leatherheads

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the George Clooney football satire 'Leatherheads' to Blu-ray on August 26th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical or supplemental information has been released for this release at this time, but we expect more detail as the release date approaches.

The Scorpion King 2 Goes Straight to Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will release 'The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior' for Blu-ray on August 19th, day-and-date with the DVD release. This direct-to-video sequel, which stars Michael Copon, will be presented in 1080p video and accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Today is the last day of the week-long, high definition influenced Amazon Gold Box deals, and today's deal is amazing. While supplies last, they will send an Blu-ray 8-Pack Starter Set for only $110, that's under $14 a movie. Rumor: Bond Coming to Blu-ray

French film website filmsactu.com is reporting that Fox France, as the distributor for MGM film content, will release six films from the James Bond series on November 5th. 'Dr No', 'Thunderball', 'Live or Let Die', 'From Russia With Love', 'Die Another Day', and 'For Your Eyes Only' will join the previously released 'Casino Royale' as some of the first Bond titles on Blu-ray.

Paramount Announces Specs for Top Gun Blu-ray

Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed the specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of the Tom Cruise classic film 'Top Gun', due to hit store shelves on July 29th. Video will be presented as 2.35:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD and a 6.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

LGMB: Amazon Blu-ray Deals for the Day

Only two days left for Hi-Def week on Amazon's Gold Box, and today they continue their specials on television series and hardware. The daily deal is either (or both) 'The Sopranos: Season 6 Part 1' or 'The Sopranos: Season 6 Part 2' for $57. Later today, 1PM EST to be exact, will be a Liteon Blu-ray Internal Drive (Read-only) for around $100.

Sony: Sub-$100 Blu-ray Drives by Winter

Representatives from SonyNEC Optiarc, the optical drive arm of the joint Sony and NEC collaboration, have revealed that they predict prices of Blu-ray combo drives - which can read Blu-ray discs and write DVD and CD - will reach sub-$100 prices by this upcoming holiday season. Additionally, it is expected that similar notebook drives would reach the $150 level by that same time.

Jack Ryan Gets Split for Blu-ray, Again

Back when I first posted that Paramount would be releasing 'Patriot Games' and 'Sum of All Fears' on Blu-ray, I was flooded with questions about whether or not they would also be releasing the other two films in the now canceled 'Jack Ryan Collection'. Word from the studio has finally come down, and Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed that they will also bring 'The Hunt for Red October' and 'Clear and Present Danger' to Blu-ray on July 29th, the same date as the previously announced Jack Ryan films.

LGMB: More Amazon Blu-ray Deals for the Day

A few days ago we reported that Amazon was running specials all week that surrounded the general idea of high definition. Well, today we have two new deals on some great Blu-ray titles. 'Robocop' has been discounted to only $16 for the daily deal, and the current lightning deal (which expires when quantities are gone or time has run out) is 'Nip/Tuck: The Complete Forth Season' for only $38. Wal-Mart to Push Blu-ray Players/Movies

Wal-Mart has revealed that any consumer who purchases a Blu-ray Disc player between June 8th and 14th will receive a free $100 gift card. In addition to the Sony BDP-S300 ($388), which they have been selling for some time now, they have added the Magnavox NB500MG9 ($298) as well as Blu-ray players from Samsung and Panasonic.

Blue Underground Adds D-Box Support

D-Box Technologies and Blue Underground have jointly announced that Blue Underground, who recently announced its first wave of Blu-ray titles, has licensed the right to use D-Box motion code on their upcoming Blu-ray releases. The first Blu-ray title from Blue Underground to use the technology will be the upcoming release of 'The Final Countdown'.

Disney Specs Nightmare Before Christmas Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed the final specs of the upcoming Blu-ray release of the Tim Burton classic 'Nightmare Before Christmas', due to hit store shelves on August 26th. Video will be presented in 1.66:1 (OAR) 1080p AVC accompanied by a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack sourced from a 24-bit master.

Blu-ray Disc Sales Hit 11 Million

According to Redhill Group, who compiled data for Home Media Magazine, over 11 million Blu-ray discs have been sold since the format launched in 2006. Sales have quadrupled since this time last year, and early sales data for May suggests that more titles have been sold in the first five months of this year than all of last year combined.

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the cult classic film 'The Lost Boys' to Blu-ray on July 29th, day-and-date with the Blu-ray release of 'Lost Boys: The Tribe'. Video will come as 2.40:1 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on a BD-25. Extras, which will all be presented in standard definition, are expansive for this release.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring Tim Burton's claymation classic 'Nightmare Before Christmas' to Blu-ray on August 26th in a collector's edition form. No technical specs have been announced at this time, but you can expect the similar 1080p AVC and PCM treatment that Disney gives the majority of their titles.

Holy Toledo! Blu-ray in Libraries

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library has announced that they will now offer Blu-ray titles for checkout. The library has amassed over 200 titles, including nature documentaries, concerts, children's movies, and even blockbuster films. If you were wondering when mainstream America was going to adopt Blu-ray, this may be the first signs.

This sequel to the cult classic 'Lost Boys' stars Angus Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland's younger brother, and a pair of Corey's (Feldman and Haim) to complete the 80's vibe. Texas Chainsaw Massacre Announced for Blu-ray

Dark Sky Films has announced that they will release the horror classic 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' for Blu-ray on September 30th. Full specs for the release are still forthcoming, but word has trickled down that the release will include never before seen bonus features. Blu-ray Recorder Escapes Japan; Lands in Australia

Since the format launched, Blu-ray recorders have been somewhat of a myth outside of Japan (where optical disc players with recording features are as common as a toaster). For some reason (maybe due to the proximity), Panasonic has announced the DMR-BW500 for Australia, a 500GB Blu-ray Recorder with twin HD tuners.

Dreamworks Plans Madagascar/Shrek the Third for Blu-ray

Dreamworks has announced that they plan to release the two animated features 'Madagascar' and 'Shrek the Third' for Blu-ray on September 16th. No technical specs or special features have been announced for the release as of yet, but we expect to hear more as we get closer to the release date. No special features have been announced for 'Madagascar', but 'Shrek the Third' will mirror the HD DVD release.
