Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

The Adventures of Robin Hood Comes to Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has announced that they are bringing the 1938 Academy Award-winning film 'The Adventures of Robin Hood' to Blu-ray on August 26th. The film was initially released in high definition on HD DVD, and this is one of the Warner "make-up" titles that is finally making its way onto Blu-ray.

Before there were Sopranos, there were Mad Men. Well, sort of. Series creator Matthew Weiner wrote the pilot back in 2000 while working as a staff writer for the TV show "Becker". David Chase, creator of 'The Sopranos', read the script, and was so impressed by it that he asked Weiner to come write for him. As soon as The Sopranos concluded, Weiner completed work on his pilot, and the rest - as they say - is history. Today, Lionsgate Home Entertainment brings the Golden Globe award winning 'Mad Men: Season One' to Blu-ray.

Hellraiser and Children of the Corn Slated for Blu-ray

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has revealed via press material that they are planning to release 'Hellraiser' and 'Children of the Corn' on Blu-ray either later this year (around Halloween, of course) or early next year. At this point, these are just title announcements, so specs or special features have yet to be announced.

Onkyo Plans Blu-ray Player by End of the Year

Onkyo has announced that they plan to release a Blu-ray player to the international market by the end of the year. The player, which has yet to be named or fully speced, will match Onkyo's line of high-definition capable A/V receivers and will support decoding of the popular Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

Specs Announced for Risky Business Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has revealed the specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Risky Business: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition', due to hit store shelves on September 16th, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. Video has been restored and remastered, and will be presented in 1080p VC-1. Audio will come via a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack.

The Godfather Trilogy Coming to Blu-ray

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring a newly restored and remastered versions of the Francis Ford Coppola's classic 'The Godfather Collection: The Coppola Restoration' to Blu-ray on September 23rd, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. The first two Godfather films received frame-by-frame restoration by Blu-ray.com friend Robert A. Harris under direction of Coppola and cinematographer Gordon Willis, and new special features were developed by another Blu-ray.com friend, Kim Aubry.

Dreamworks Announces Sweeney Todd

Dreamworks Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Tim Burton horror masterpiece 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' to Blu-ray on October 21st, just in time for Halloween. Video will be presented in 1080p AVC and be accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. No special features have been announced at this time, but expect most, if not all, of the extras from the previously released collector's edition DVD.

Hostel III Planned for Direct-to-Video Blu-ray Release

Horror film fan site Bloody-Disgusting.com has exclusive information that Scott Spiegel (who produced the first two Hostel films and wrote 'Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn') will write and direct the upcoming direct-to-video release of 'Hostel III'. The film, which is only in the planning phase right now, is expected to come to Blu-ray when it does eventually get released.

The Sixth Sense Coming to Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the M. Night Shyamalan's horror classic 'The Sixth Sense' to Blu-ray on September 30th. Video will be presented in 1080p AVC and accompanied by a PCM soundtrack. No special features have been announced at this time for the release.

Tartan Closes UK Branch

A few weeks ago, we reported that Tartan Fims USA was closed and sold off to Palisades. New reports are suggesting that the UK arm of Tartan Films was officially closed on Thursday, and all film assets will be auctioned off at a later date. Tartan has released a handful of Blu-ray titles in the UK, and there is no word on how the sale will affect the availability of those titles or who might be in line to purchase the catalog.

Pirates of the Caribbean Triology Coming to Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring all three 'Pirates of the Caribbean' films to Blu-ray as a boxset on September 16th. The boxset will feature all three previously released two-disc Blu-ray versions of the films, so there is no need to upgrade for current owners. Those who have yet to purchase the films, or are new to Blu-ray, will find the the new boxset as a convenient option to pick up all three films as a single set.

Rudy and Jerry Maguire Announced

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Sean Astin football classic film 'Rudy' and the Cameron Crowe directed film 'Jerry Maguire' to Blu-ray on September 9th. Both films will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p video accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.

Married Life Coming to Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they are bringing 'Married Life' to Blu-ray on September 2nd, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Extras include audio commentary with Director Ira Sachs and three alternate endings with optional commentary.

Night Watch & Day Watch Coming to Blu-ray

Fox Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Timur Bekmambetov films 'Night Watch' and 'Day Watch' to Blu-ray on September 9th. Bekmambetov is currently taking Hollywood by storm with his current theatrical hit, 'Wanted'. Interestingly enough, both films will feature the original Russian language track in Dolby TrueHD instead of Fox's usual DTS HD Master Audio.

Fox Announces The Omen Collection for Blu-ray

Fox Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'The Omen Collection' to Blu-ray on September 9th. The four disc set will feature the three original Omen films ('The Omen' (1976), 'Damien: Omen II', and 'Omen III: Final Conflict') as well as the 2006 remake of the original film. Additionally, Fox will release 'The Omen' (1976) individually for Blu-ray.

Image Entertainment has announced that they will bring the direct-to-video horror thriller 'Stuck' to Blu-ray on Blu-ray on October 7th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The film, which stars Mena Suvari, will be presented in 1080p video and accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Amazon Japan See Blu-ray Boost

Amazon Japan has revealed that, during the first half of 2008, Blu-ray sales dramatically increased over the previous year, with anime titles giving the biggest push, representing five of the top 10 Blu-ray titles. On top of the list was Sony Pictures' 'Resident Evil: The High Definition Trilogy', which significantly outperformed its DVD counterpart.

Pioneer Announces New Blu-ray Players for Europe

Pioneer has announced the introduction of two new Blu-ray Disc players for Europe - the BDP-LX91 and BDP-LX08 - as well as reintroducing the upcoming BDP-LX71 (which was announced in April) and BDP-51FD (already available in the US). The Pioneer BDP-LX91 will be the first BD-Live player from the company, while the Pinoeer BDP-LX08 will occupy the ultra-highend market.

New Blu-ray Release of 300 Confirmed

At the Saturn Awards earlier this week, Collider.com managed to get an interview with producer Mark Canton, who worked as the producer on '300'. During that interview, he confirmed that they were working on a new Blu-ray release for the film. Given past information from Warner, we expect this release to be called '300: Limited Collector's Edition' and to be released later this year.

Warner Brings Two IMAX Features to Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the two IMAX features 'Cosmic Voyage / Destiny in Space' and 'Space Station / Mission to Mir' for Blu-ray on October 14th. Both releases will come on BD-25s featuring 1.66:1 1080p video and a Dolby Digital soundtrack. There are no extras for either release as both contain two features.

Kiss of the Spider Woman Blu-ray Exclusively at Amazon

City Light Home Entertainment has announced that have partnered with Amazon.com to release the Oscar-nominated film 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' for Blu-ray on July 22nd, day-and-date with the DVD and digital releases. No technical specs or special feature have been announced for the title at this time.

The Mist Coming to Blu-ray

Weinstein Company has announced that they are planning to bring the horror film 'The Mist' to Blu-ray on August 5th. Coming as a two-disc release, one disc will hold the theatrical release and the other will feature a "black-and-white" version of the film, both in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 TrueHD soundtrack. Extras have yet to be announced for this release, but they are expected to be similar to the previously released 2-disc DVD.

Warner Announces The Goonies Blu-ray Release for Europe

Warner Home Video has announced that they will release the Richard Donner classic film 'The Goonies' on Blu-ray this October in Europe. No announcement has been made for other regions at this time, but it is expected that they will release the title around the same time in the United States.

Sony Pledges BD-Live on All Releases

At the Home Media Expo yesterday, Rich Marty, Sony's VP of New Business Development pledged that Sony Pictures would include BD-Live as a standard feature on all future Blu-ray releases. This comes after the successful integration of BD-Live features into such Blu-ray releases as 'Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story' and 'Men in Black'.

An American Werewolf in London Coming to Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment will be releasing the 1981 horror film 'An American Werewolf in London' on Blu-ray sometime next year, according to writer/director John Landis. He also confirmed that the release would receive a brand new documentary called "Beware the Moon: Remembering an American Werewolf in London'.
