Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Special Features for El Norte Announced

The Criterion Collection has announced the special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'El Norte', which is currently scheduled to hit store shelves on January 20th. Technical specs have yet to be announced, by you can expect to see 1080p video accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Warner to Ship More than 1M Dark Knight Blu-rays

According to sources, Warner Home Video will ship more than 1 Million copies of the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'The Dark Knight' to retailers, which represents the largest initial shipment of any Blu-ray title, ever. There has been a great deal of anticipation for the title, which is on schedule to be released on December 9th, and Warner appears to be share the same sentiments.

Optimum Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the 2008 Golden Bear-award winning film 'Elite Squad' to Blu-ray on January 19th in the UK. The takes a dramatic look at Rio de Janeiro's vast and intricate web of police corruption. No technical specs have been announced at this time, and the lone special feature will be an Interview with José Padilha.

Pioneer Announces Blu-ray HTIB

Pioneer Electronics has announced that they will release a Blu-ray Home Theater in a Box (HTIB) system, the LX01BD, to consumers soon. The system incorporates a Pioneer BonusView Blu-ray Disc player and a 5.1 surround sound system in one convenient set-up. The player will feature DeepColor HDMI support as well as Pioneer's proprietary KURO link.

Ghostbusters Delayed Until Summer 2009

During the San Diego Comic-Con 2008, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced that they would bring 'Ghostbusters I & II' to Blu-ray in conjunction with a new video game based on the popular films. While no official release date was ever revealed, it was widely assumed that they would be released sometime in October.

Kenmac to Make Blu-ray Players in 2009

Taiwan-based consumer electronics manufacturere Kenmac has revealed that they will begin producing Blu-ray Disc players beginning the first quarter of next year. After spending six months and nearly $2M developing the player, they have already received orders from both European retailers and Chinese manufacturer Haier.

Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed more details regarding the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Friday the 13th Unrated: Deluxe Edition', which is currently scheduled to hit store shelves on February 3rd, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack as well as a Dolby Digital Mono soundtrack for those of you who want to hear the film as it was originally shown.

Image Entertainment has announced that they with bring 'My Name is Bruce' to Blu-ray on February 10th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The film is directed by and stars cult horror god Bruce Campbell, who plays a person mistakenly identified as his Evil Dead character Ash, and must fight off a horror that threatens citizens of Oregon.

DEG Launches $25M Blu-ray Campaign

The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) has announced that they will launch a $25M ad campaign to help jumpstart sales of Blu-ray Disc players and movies this holiday season. The first ad - which is part of the their "Tru Blu" campaign - appeared during a November 2nd NFL football game on Fox Network.

Eagle Rock Entertainment has announced that they will bring three of their best selling music titles - 'Tori Amos, Live At Montreux 1991/1992', 'Ray Charles, Live At Montreux 1997', 'The Strat Pack Live In Concert' - to Blu-ray on December 9th. Sony Reveals Blu-spec CD; Profile 3.0 Future Unknown

Sony Music Entertainment has announced the creation of the Blu-spec CD format which allows higher quality audio playback from standard CD players. The format uses Blu-ray laser diodes and advanced polymers in order to improve on the standard (Redbook) CD format while operating within the format parameters.

Fox Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Vin Diesel action film 'Babylon A.D.' to Blu-ray on January 6th, day-and-date with the DVD. The film will be presented in its unrated cut on a BD-50 with video presented as 1.85:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

NAD Introduces High-end Blu-ray Disc Player

NAD Electronics has introduced their first Blu-ray Disc player, the NAD T 587. This BD-Live player has the ability display video at 1080p24 as well as decode or bitstream all audio formats. A unique feature of this player is the ability to process both NTSC and PAL standard definition formats, making this an excellent player for imported Blu-ray titles that feature non compliant standard definition content.

The Weinstein Company has announced that they will bring the thriller 'Eden Lake' to Blu-ray on January 6th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Coming under the Dimension Extreme label, video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Extras are slim, only consisting of an audio commentary track and making-of featurette.

Paramount 2009 Rumored Slate

Our good friends over at The Digital Bits have received word regarding many titles that Paramount is have in planning phases for Blu-ray release sometime next year. While there are no guaranties that all or any of these titles will see Blu-ray release, they do provide a good indication about what you might see from the studio in months to come.

WALL•E Special Features Revealed for UK

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed the special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'WALL•E', which is due to hit UK store shelves on November 24th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Much like the US release, technical specs are still unconfirmed but will most likely be AVC video accompanied by a PCM soundtrack.

Wilco Shuns Fans; Has Blu-ray Release Delayed

Plexifilm has announced that they have indefinitely delayed the Blu-ray release of 'I Am Trying to Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco' due to an email released by the band last week asking fans to not purchase the disc due to their belief that a Blu-ray release would not be worth the upgrade. The company will now show the high definition release to the band in order to illustrate the great gains a Blu-ray release can provide.
