Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Laguna Announces The Battle: Cinco de Mayo

Laguna Productions has announced that it will release the street fighting-themed movie 'The Battle: Cinco de Mayo' on Blu-ray on September 15, day-and-date with the DVD. Video specifications are not available at this time. Audio will be 2.0 and 5.1 Dolby Digital. The only confirmed bonus features are some trailers.

Management Blu-ray Gets Detailed

Image Entertainment has disclosed the release details for the movie 'Management', starring Jennifer Aniston and Steve Zahn, that will hit store shelves on Blu-ray on September 29. Bonus features will include an audio commentary with actor Steve Zahn and director Stephen Belber, deleted scenes, a gag reel, and a trailer.

Disc Producers' Work Grows with Blu-ray

Thanks to the increase in number of BD releases, in number of studios and in the man-hours required with Blu-ray authoring, disc producers are working harder than ever, as confirmed by participants at the recent Entertainment Supply Chain Academy conference.

Rick Wakeman's Six Wives of Henry VIII Live BD

Eagle Rock Entertainment is releasing 'Rick Wakeman: The Six Wives of Henry VIII – Live at Hampton Court Palace' in the UK on Blu-ray on October 5, day-and-date with the DVD. On May 1 and 2, Yes veteran keyboard player Rick Wakeman performed his 1973 classic album, with Hampton Court Palace as a backdrop, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's accession to the throne. It is the first time that this album has been played live.

Midwestern retail chain American TV has just dropped the price of the Sherwood BDP-5003 Blu-ray player to a mind-boggling $50.09. It can be picked up at any of its 15 retail stores in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Michigan, or shipped anywhere in the US (with additional shipping costs). Stock is probably limited, so act fast. Update: the deal is dead now.

National Parks: America's Best Idea Coming to BD

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the release of the new Ken Burns documentary 'National Parks: America's Best Idea' on Blu-ray on October 6, day-and-date with the DVD and shortly after airing on PBS. This 12-hour, six-part documentary tells the human history of five of the nation's most important and most heavily visited National Parks and the people who made them possible.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut BD Announced

Soccer moms and other upright citizens, take cover. Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that it will release the irreverent and profanity-laden animated movie 'South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut' on Blu-ray on October 13. Video will be 1.85:1 1080p with a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, accompanied by English, French and Spanish subtitles.

State of Play Announced for UK BD Release

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the thriller 'State of Play' to Blu-ray in the UK on September 21st, day-and-date with the DVD release. Technical specs will mirror the US release, with a 1080p VC-1 video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack presentation. Special features are also expected to mirror the US release.

Fox Brings Trio of Christmas Movies to Blu-ray

In an early announcement to retailers, it has been revealed that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release three holiday-themed movies on Blu-ray on October 6: the original 'Miracle on 34th Street', the 'Miracle on 34th Street' 1994 remake, and 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York'. Specifications and special features are still unavailable.

Casablanca Regular Blu-ray Edition Coming Up

An early announcement to retailers indicates that Warner Home Video is set to re-release 'Casablanca' on a regular edition Blu-ray on September 15. So far this great classic had only been available in the US as part of a two-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition (with special packaging and bundled memorabilia), released in December 2008 with a list price of $64.99.

Wal-Mart Breaks the $100 Blu-ray Player Barrier

Barely a month after lowering the price of a Blu-ray player to $128, Wal-Mart has gone further and rolled back the price of the Magnavox NB530MGX (initially $168) to $98. For reference, this is a BonusView (Profile 1.1) player, which supports 1080p (60p and 24p) video, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreaming and DVD upconversion. It is manufactured by Funai.

BD Sales Information: June 29-July 5 (Update)

In the middle of the summer doldrums, the low-budget actioner '12 Rounds', which earned theatrically a mere (and appropriate) $12 million, was the top-selling title on Blu-ray on the week ending July 5 according to Nielsen Videoscan. 'Gran Torino' stood its ground at second place, whereas 'Transformers' dropped from first to third place.

Star Trek Original Series Season 2 BD for September

Paramount Home Entertainment will release 'Star Trek: The Original Series: Season 2' on Blu-ray on September 22, with all 26 episodes from the 1967-68 season. Like 'Season 1' did, this box set will consist of seven discs and will include both the original broadcast version and a remastered version with new special effects.

Warner UK New Release BD Slate Unveiled

The UK branch of Warner Home Video has also fixed the Blu-ray release dates for its new theatrical releases in the fourth quarter of the year. 'The Hangover' is set to hit shelves on October 5, followed by 'Hell Ride' on October 12, 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' on December 7 and 'Shorts' also on December 7.

Rome and Sopranos Get November Release Date

Our mates at DVD Times have gotten hold of the release slate for the UK branch of Warner Home Video. We already brought you the Warner catalog schedule, but now we also have release dates for two major HBO series. 'Rome: Complete Box Set' will be released on Blu-ray on November 16, and 'The Sopranos: Season One' a week later.

Geek Peek: Wolverine Limited Edition with Figurine in Germany

The German branch of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced that it will release 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' on Blu-ray on October 2. It will be available in a regular edition or an extended limited edition that will include a DVD, a digital copy and, more uniquely, a collector's figure featuring Wolverine fighting Sabretooth.

LG HR400 Player/Set-top Announced for the UK

A month after its continental announcement, Korean consumer electronics maker LG has announced the HR400, a Blu-ray player for the European market that will include a Freeview+ and analog TV tuner and a 160GB hard drive to record programs on. Also supported will be YouTube access and DivX playback. However, no optical disc recording will be possible. Price is still pending confirmation, but it will be around 350 UK pounds.

BollyBlu: Eros Plans 25-50 Titles for Blu-ray

Eros International has published its financial results and they include an interesting tidbit for fans of Indian cinema on Blu-ray. So far, the company has released two titles on Blu-ray ('Heyy Babyy' and 'Om Shanti Om'). Now they are going to multiply their output and intend to release 25-50 further titles on Blu-ray in the current (financial) year, in a combination of new and catalogue titles.

August Catalog BD Wave from Sony UK Detailed

The UK branch of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced and detailed seven catalog titles for Blu-ray release. In August 3, five titles will come out: 'About Last Night...', 'Blue Thunder', 'Glory', 'Go' and 'St. Elmo's Fire'. In turn, Jim Henson's 'The Dark Crystal' and 'Labyrinth' will be released on August 31.

First Details of Watchmen Ultimate Edition BD Emerge

Early copies of the 'Watchmen: Director's Cut' Blu-ray are surfacing, and the release contains a flier with some early details of the Ultimate Collector's Edition of the movie. It will be released in December and will only be available through June 2010. Over two hours of bonus content will be included.

Amadeus Blu-ray Re-released on No-DigiBook Case

Warner Home Video has announced that it will rerelease 'Amadeus: Director's Cut' on September 15. This movie had already been released on Blu-ray on February 10, in a 'DigiBook edition', while the new edition will come in a regular Blu-ray case. Additionally, the rerelease will not include the soundtrack CD sampler or the digital copy which were bundled in the first edition. The movie disc itself is exactly the same.

Sebastian Bach Blu-ray in the Works

Sebastian Bach - former lead singer of Skid Row and accomplished solo artist - recently revealed that he, along with his production team, are in the process of completing his untitled Blu-ray release. It is said to feature both high definition video and audio, along with a number of Blu-ray exclusive features, including files, posters, and memorabilia from his shows.

Anchor Bay Inks Distro Deal with UFC

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has announced that they have inked a deal with UFC to distribute their home video library. Currently, UFC content is distributed by First Look Studios, and it is unknown at this time what transpired to see the two companies part ways. No word on what the first Anchor Bay/UFC release will be, but it is promised to be loaded with extra features.

Maya Entertainment - who is currently working with Blockbuster on their Maya Independent Film Series festival - has announced that they will bring the bi-lingual film 'The Line' to Blu-ray on November 10th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Technical specs for the film, which stars Ray Liota, Andy Garcia, Esai Morales and Armand Assante, have not been announced at this time.

Bandai Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Escaflowne: The Movie' to Blu-ray on September 15th. Video will be presented in 1080p high definition along with both Japanese and English audio soundtracks in 5.1 Dolby TrueHD. The only extra for the release will be interviews with the cast and crew.

DreamWorks Animation in conjunction with Paramount Home Entertainment have revealed the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Monsters vs. Aliens', which is scheduled to hit stores shelves on September 29th, day-and-date with the DVD release.
