Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Warner Home Video has officially announced and detailed the 2010 version of Clash of the Titans, which is set for release on a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack on July 27. The Blu-ray will exclusively feature an alternate ending, plus Warner's Maximum Movie Mode. A Blu-ray 3D version has not been announced at the time.

In its fifth week, Avatar finally gave up the throne on overall packaged media sales – but not on Blu-ray, where it moved over twice as many units as the New Line romantic movie Valentine's Day, according to Nielsen VideoScan. Clint Eastwood's Invictus was a close third. Perhaps Dear John will do this week on Blu-ray what it did at the theaters in February? Update: sales figures added.

Shout! Factory has revealed the full details for the two titles it will release on Blu-ray on August 3 as part of its Roger Corman's Cult Classic collection: Piranha (Joe Dante, 1978) and Humanoids from the Deep (Barbara Peters, 1980). The latter will feature a version never been seen before in the United States, as it was taken from the interpositive from the uncut international version.

Last Tuesday, the anime feature film Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance, sold 195,000 Blu-ray Discs in Japan, easily beating the first-day sales record for a Blu-ray release in that country (which previously belonged to Michael Jackson's This Is It with 122,000 copies). Over 60% of the total disc sales of this title came from the Blu-ray version.

Last Friday, on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (which featured actor Kiefer Sutherland), the end credits included a notice that said: "24 - Season 8 Blu-ray DVD and the complete series available December 7." Additionally, Sutherland mentioned that a complete collection of all eight seasons of the series 24 is also being released – although it isn't entirely clear if it will come out on Blu-ray as well. Update: the complete series will be DVD only.

Warner Home Video has announced its first hockey-related title on Blu-ray, with the release of NHL Stanley Cup Champions 2009-2010, which has a street date of July 20. This BD/DVD set will recap the Regular Season, Playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals for the winning team from the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup Finals, to be played from May 29 between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks.

BFI Video has announced the release of Luchino Visconti's The Leopard (Il gattopardo) on Blu-ray for June 21. Presented complete and uncut in its original widescreen aspect ratio, this stunning High Definition transfer – from the original 35mm 8-perforation negative – was overseen by the film's Director of Photography, Giuseppe Rotunno, and features fully restored picture and sound.

Warner Home Video has announced that, from September 7, the 1980s horror movie Poltergeist (released in August 2008 in a DigiBook edition) will be available on a Blu-ray edition with a standard BD case. Release details are unchanged (except for the printed content). MSRP will be $24.99 ($10 less than the Digibook). There are no plans to discontinue the first edition.

During last CES technology fair, LG Electronics announced several Blu-ray players and home theater systems, but no 3D models. But the Korean CE maker obviously doesn't want to be left behind and is now launching the BX580, a Blu-ray player with access to numerous online services (Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, Roxio CinemaNow, Pandora Internet Radio, Picasa Web Albums and AccuWeather), DLNA, HDMI 1.4 and WiFi b/g/n – and Blu-ray 3D.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition for release on on Blu-ray on June 29, "just in time" for the theatrical debut of Predators on July 9 (for which $10 in movie money are included with the BD). This erotic thriller about a jealous wife who hires an escort girl to test the faithfulness of her husband is a remake of Nathalie, a 2004 French movie. It stars Amanda Seyfried, Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson, and received a limited theatrical release in March.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Charlie's Angels for release on Blu-ray on August 3. This action comedy, based on a successful 1970s TV series, stars Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, and was a box office hit in the year 2000, spawning a sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (which featured on one of SPHE's early Blu-ray promotional trailers but is still unannounced).

According to HollywoodinHidef.com, a 3D Blu-ray release of Avatar will come out in November 2010, but at least for the several months it will only be available for the buyers of Panasonic 3D Blu-ray equipment. In turn, Disney is reportedly close to signing a similar deal with Sony Electronics to bundle the 3D Blu-ray of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland with the purchase of Sony 3D hardware.

Disney will go down in Blu-ray history as the first studio to announce a true 3D title for general release (not tied to the purchase of certain 3D hardware). On November 16, the studio will release the Robert Zemeckis-directed CGI movie A Christmas Carol, starring a motion-captured Jim Carrey, in two BD editions: a single-disc release, and a 4-disc combo pack, including no fewer than four incarnations of the movie: conventional BD, DVD, digital copy and 3D BD.

In an early announcement to retailers, it has been revealed that, on August 10, Vivendi Visual Entertainment will release four Asian films as part of its Dragon Dynasty collection: An Empress and the Warriors (Kwong saan mei yan, 2008); Invisible Target (Naam yi boon sik, 2007); The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk (Fong Sai Yuk, 1993), and Tai Chi Master (Tai ji: Zhang San Feng, 1993). Production company Grizzly Adams Productions, specialized in family-friendly and faith-based independent movies, has announced the signature of an agreement with San Diego-based 3D production studio PassmoreLab to convert 500 of its feature films, television series and documentaries to 3D. The 7-year, $200-million project aims to create the largest 3D library in the entertainment industry.
