Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

The Score Best Buy Exclusive Blu-ray

Paramount's 2001 crime thriller The Score, starring Robert De Niro and Edward Norton, will be released on August 31, exclusively at Best Buy. No release details are available, nor is there any information as to the duration of the exclusivity window.

Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes Walmart Exclusive Blu-ray

Back in May, Warner Home Video had announced the animated feature Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes, with a street date of August 24. However, it never appeared at any retailers afterwards and was thought to be delayed. But it is out now, albeit as a Walmart exclusive. There is no information as to the duration of the exclusivity window.

The Wiz Blu-ray Announced

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that, on November 30, it will release the 1978 Sidney Lumet movie The Wiz, a re-imagining of the Wizard of Oz tale, based on the Broadway musical of the same title, starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. It will be presented in a single-sided BD50 disc, with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Metropolis Blu-ray Announced

Kino Lorber has announced that it will release Metropolis on Blu-ray on November 16. Fritz Lang's 1927 science-fiction masterpiece will be presented with 25 minutes of lost footage and the original Gottfried Huppertz score, performed by the Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra, Berlin, conducted by Frank Strobel, in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

It had to end. With today's Blu-ray release of Lost: The Complete Sixth and Final Season, Disney officially turns the last page in the television drama that took the country by storm, and was able to keep viewers engaged like few shows before it. Those of you who have been waiting patiently for the inevitable super-mega box set are rewarded with the 36-disc Lost: The Complete Collection featuring collectibles sure to make the diehard fans' hearts race. Sure, it's over, but what a way to go.

The Human Centipede UK Blu-ray and SteelBook

Bounty Films, in conjunction with Eureka Entertainment, has announced the Blu-ray release of The Human Centipede (First Sequence), with a street date of October 4. This controversially disturbing horror movie, equally announced recently in the US, will also be available in a limited-edition SteelBook with a complimentary T-shirt, available only through the Human Centipede store.

Predators Blu-ray Dated and Detailed

IGN has the scoop on the release date and details for Predators, which will come out on Blu-ray on October 19. A digital copy of the movie will be included. In this reboot of the Predator saga, produced by Robert Rodriguez and directed by Nimród Antal, a group of elite killers is abducted and released onto a strange and hostile planet, where they will be hunted by the alien Predators.

Avatar Collector’s Edition Blu-ray with Even Longer Cut

In an interview to promote the "special edition" re-release of Avatar, director James Cameron revealed that not only will the upcoming Collector's Edition Blu-ray include this extended version, but also a more expanded, "alternate reality version" of the film that is a full 16 minutes longer than the original.

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has announced The Disappearance of Alice Creed for Blu-ray release on November 23. This British thriller stars the up-and-coming Gemma Arterton as a millionaire's daughter who is kidnapped for ransom, but refuses to play the perfect victim. It opened in a dozen theaters early this month.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Please Give for Blu-ray release on October 19. This independent comedy/drama, starring Catherine Keener, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and has received overall positive reviews. It got a very limited release in April.

White Christmas Blu-ray Announced

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced White Christmas for Blu-ray release on November 2. This 1954 musical, featuring songs by composer Irving Berlin and starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, was the first movie shot in the VistaVision film format. It will be presented with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack (along with the original mono).

Bridge on the River Kwai Blu-ray Announced

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced The Bridge on the River Kwai on a Collector's Edition Blu-ray/DVD set, with a release date of November 2. This WWII classic, winner of seven Academy Awards, has received a 4K restoration from the original negatives, with newly-restored 5.1 audio.

Sources from Warner Home Video have revealed to The Digital Bits that the studio is currently preparing Stanley Kubrick's Lolita and Barry Lyndon for Blu-ray release in 2011. They will probably be released both separately and also as part of a new Stanley Kubrick Blu-ray Collection box set.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Grown Ups for Blu-ray release on November 9, in a BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. This comedy about five former teammates reuniting for a Fourth of July weekend was another hit for the Adam Sandler/Dennis Dugan team, with nearly $159 million at the box office.

Fox Pathé Europa has issued a press release announcing Avatar: Collector's Edition in France for the last quarter of 2010. List price is 29.99 euros. Reportedly, it will consist of three BDs, with the extended version of James Cameron's sci-fi epic, and will include "hours of never-before-seen, exclusive bonus content."

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has added an innovative feature to the Blu-ray release of The Office: Season Six, which, as previously reported, is set to hit store shelves on September 7. Using the BD-Live connection on their Blu-ray players, buyers will have an opportunity to watch the latest five episodes from season seven after they air on their home televisions – and in HD, pending individual Internet connection speeds.

Metalocalypse Season 3 Blu-ray in November

Warner Home Video is set to release Metalocalypse: Season III - The Dead Man on November 9 (a week later than initially announced), shortly after the season finale premieres on Adult Swim. Audio will be presented in Dolby TrueHD 5.1. At the moment the studio hasn't revealed any plans to re-release seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-ray.

Troll 2 Blu-ray in October

Move over, 007. MGM Home Entertainment is set to release Troll 2 on October 5, in a BD/DVD combo "20th Anniversary Nilbog Edition". This 1990 low-budget horror film about man-eating goblins, currently number 64 on the IMDB Bottom 100, recently shot back to fame after the release of the documentary Best Worst Movie. Special features have not been revealed.

Anchorman Blu-ray Detailed

Full details have been revealed for Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, which, as previously reported, will be released on Blu-ray on August 31 as a Best Buy exclusive. This two-disc Rich Mahogany Edition will include 50 minutes of new special features, a Many Months of Burgundy book and 12 collectible trading cards.

During the week ended August 15, with two comedies as day-and-date releases, Date Night emerged victorious as the top-selling title on Blu-ray, according to data from Nielsen VideoScan First Alert, while Death at a Funeral was fourth and sold only a third of the copies of the Carell/Fey vehicle. The previous week's number-one, Kick-Ass, slipped to second place.

Warner Home Video has announced Ultimate NFL for Blu-ray release on October 26. Promoted as NFL Films' "most visually arresting film to date," it uses a new camera which shoots up to 1,000 frames per second in high definition. This BD also presents an all-access tour of NFL Films studios and interactive media tools that allow you to experience the creative decisions that NFL Films producers face each day.

After months of speculation, the product buyer from FutureShop, Brana, has just confirmed there will be a Holiday Program promoting the upcoming Blu-ray releases in collectible metal packaging. However, unlike last year, these will not be SteelBooks, but rather Iron Packs.

James Cameron Talks Aliens Blu-ray Remaster

During an interview to promote the Avatar theatrical re-release, director James Cameron also mentioned that he had just done "a complete remaster of Aliens" (included in the Alien Anthology scheduled for Blu-ray release on October 26), working with the same colorist with whom he had worked on Avatar. In what is sure to ignite some controversy, Cameron said he had completely removed all noise and grain from the extended version of the film.
