Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The French branch of Warner Home Video has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray director Roman Polanski's latest film Carnage (2011), starring Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz, and John C. Reilly. Earlier this year, the film won Little Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival. Street date is April 7th.

Blu-ray Disc Sales Increase 35% in 2011

Home Media Magazine reports that strong sales of Blu-ray discs for the third quarter of 2011 have driven the expected sales percentage increase over 2010 to 35%. After a sluggish start to 2011, popular Blu-ray titles such as: The Lion King, Cars 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 have enticed disc buyers to choose the superior HD version of the movie over the comparative standard definition.

French distributors UGC PH have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray director Jan Kounen's (Doberman) Blueberry a.k.a Renegade (2004), starring Vincent Cassel, Michael Madsen, Juliette Lewis, and Tchéky Karyo. Technical specs, supplemental features and region coding status for this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary street date set by the distributors is March 7th.

Based on true events, the film chronicles Marilyn Monroe's 1956 trip to London to shoot The Prince and the Showgirl with Sir Laurence Olivier. Street date is March 12.

In an early announcement to retailers, MGM has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray three classic Alfred Hitchcock films: Rebecca (1940), starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, Spellbound (1945), starring Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman, and Notorious (1946), starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. While the Criterion Collection will not release their March 2012 Blu-ray slate until December 15th, the distributor has posted a still frame on their Facebook page hinting at a potential title. Criterion will not confirm from which film the shot originates, but most seem to think that the tease indicates a Blithe Spirit disc, which would mark both the film's Criterion and North American Blu-ray debuts.
