This Week on Blu-ray: April 13-19

For the week of April 13th, the Criterion Collection will release Trouble in Paradise (1932) and Monty Python's Life of Brian on Blu-ray and 4K UHD. New releases include the documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, the anime releases Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM from Crunchyroll and Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can't Sing from Shout Factory and GKIDS, as well as A Traveler's Needs from Cinema Guild and Midsomer Murders: Series 25 (2025) from Acorn Media. Catalog titles include 4K UHD upgrades for Death Ship, UFOria, Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, Runaway Train and The Phantom (1996) from Kino Lorber and Meet the Fockers from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Alice in Wonderland 4K Blu-ray

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release on 4K Blu-ray Rambo: The Complete Collection (1982-2019). The release, which will be sold exclusively at Amazon, is scheduled to arrive on the market on May 26.

EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Decal Releasing will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Baz Luhrmann's EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert (2025). The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on June 16.

Blu-ray Sales: March 22-28: Return to Silent Hill and Killers of the Flower Moon Top the Charts

For the week that ended on March 28th, Cineverse's Return to Silent Hill rose up and topped the Blu-ray-only chart in its second week, while second place went to the Criterion Collection's Killers of the Flower Moon, which was the top 4K UHD title for the week. Third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Zootopia 2.

Blu-ray Sales: December 24-30: Oppenheimer Still on Top in Sixth Week

For the week that ended on December 30th, it's déjŕ vu all over again as Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Oppenheimer (2023), Universal's Five Nights at Freddy's and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny remained the top three Blu-rays. Oppenheimer has been the top 4K UHD release all six weeks since its debut, along with the top Blu-ray for five of those weeks, slipping to second only on the release week of Dial of Destiny back in December.

2023 was a very unusual year for me. I added to my library the largest number of genre films ever, and I could not pick up everything I liked. On top of this, I ordered the largest number of box sets with classic TV content, though not all of them were new releases. I even managed to acquire several imports that took a long time to reach America. So, while 2022 was a very busy year for me, 2023 was unlike any other year before it, which is a very long time because I have been collecting since the LD era. I am convinced 2024 will be another tremendous year for collectors like me because I already have a huge list of pre-orders and they cover only January through April.

For the week that ended on December 23rd, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Oppenheimer (2023) kept the top spot on the Blu-ray-only chart in its fifth week, while Universal's Five Nights at Freddy's also kept second place. Third place went to Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which rose two spots this week.

After a light week to end 2023, the first week of 2024 is an even lighter one. New releases on Blu-ray include The Holdovers from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, The Marsh King's Daughter from Lionsgate Home Entertainment and The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie from Crunchyroll. Catalog titles include The Apu Trilogy (1955-1959) on 4K UHD from the Criterion Collection as well as Blu-rays for Popi (1969) and Romantic Comedy (1983) from MGM and Forced Vengeance from Shout Factory.
