Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

The Final Cut Pro enthusiasts website FCP World has announced a new collection of 60 Blu-ray templates for Apple's popular video editing software. For $49.95, users can download the templates (which were designed by Kevin Monahan, owner of FCP World) and use them to design Blu-ray releases from their own video footage.

On the heels of a similar announcement by Fox, Universal has announced two new iPhone and social network applications that will be featured on upcoming Blu-ray releases. Pocket Blu, which is available as a free download on iTunes, gives viewers access to a remote control, keyboard, Video Timeline, and exclusive Mobile-To-Go content right on their iPhone.

Amex Digital today announced a Blu-ray Drive Upgrade Kit for the Mac mini, model BD-UG1. The drive is a slot-loader, with a SATA interface. It supports data reading and writing (with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 with Encore or Roxio Toast with BD plug-in). However, Blu-ray playback will require booting on Windows and using PowerDVD or WinDVD. The BD-UG1 has an MSRP of $199.

The Target weekly ad for November 8-14 prominently features on its cover a Memorex Blu-ray player for $99.99 ($50 off). According to Target staff contacted by members of blu-ray.com forum, the player model is the MVBD-2520, with BD-Live and advanced audio support. This offer is only available in stores and not online.

Amazon is sending an email message to its customers who bought 'Up' on Blu-ray, informing them that they qualify for $10 off the purchase of one of a list of eligible BDs. The email includes a code that must be entered at checkout to claim this discount. This discount code must be used by November 30, 2009, and can't be combined with any other promotional offers.

In the fourth quarter of the year, studios are sacrificing BD premium pricing and applying aggressive discounting for faster mass adoption of the format. Several major retailers now sell new BD releases at under $20 – barely above special-edition DVD releases, or even below. This is beyond what industry analysts expected at this stage.

UK-based company Bollywood Entertainment Limited is setting up operations in India, with a platform for the sale of a wide range of Blu-ray discs from Indian home entertainment companies. The company is also associating with one of Indian cinema's oldest post production houses, Prasad Cine Labs, to promote Blu-ray in India.

Replication company Cinram today reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2009, which were consistent with expectations. Although unit sales of DVDs and CDs were down from 2008, the increase in Blu-ray volume, coupled with the company's increased operating efficiencies, resulted in a strong financial performance.

Related Content Database (RCDb), a provider of software and services for network-connected Blu-ray discs, announced today that it has entered a technology licensing and services agreement with Netflix, Inc. to jointly develop the instant streaming BD that enables Netflix members to instantly watch movies and TV episodes on their PS3. Netflix announced today that it has already sent 100,000 streaming discs to subscribers.

Paramount Germany is running a novel idea to promote the local Blu-ray release of 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen': a "Twitter Hunt" where fans look for hidden transformers. In each of the cities of Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich there will be one object in a public place, signaled as a transformer by an Autobot or Decepticon sticker.

National Entertainment Media has announced the Blu-ray release of the mob thriller 'Staten Island' for December 22. 'Staten Island' is the directorial debut of screenwriter James DeMonaco ('The Negotiator') and stars Ethan Hawke and Vincent D'Onofrio. According to user reports, some studios are now manufacturing separate Blu-ray Discs for rental which are lacking most of the special features included in the BD retail version of the titles in question. This tactic started early this year with DVD and allegedly is now being expanded to Blu-ray as well.

First Look Studios has announced that it will release 'Triangle' on Blu-ray on February 2, 2010. This Bermuda-triangle shipborne horror movie, starring Melissa George ('30 Days of Night') premiered at Film4 Frightfest and Screamfest festivals, but didn't enjoy a theatrical release. It will initially be presented in limited-edition lenticular packaging.

Image Entertainment has announced the indie noir thriller drama, 'Across the Hall', starring Brittany Murphy as a cheating woman, straight to release on Blu-ray on January 19, 2010. 'Across the Hall' has had a trailer going around for more than a year, but never opened in theaters. Audio is listed at the moment as Dolby Digital 5.1 only, although in view of the audio specs of recent Image titles, it might finally turn out to be lossless audio.

Managed copy, the BD feature that enables consumers to make one copy of any Blu-ray Disc they buy, comes into effect on December 4, and most BD titles released after that date will support it. However, there are no players able to make those backups and thus the Advanced Access Content System License Administrator (AACS-LA), which also is in charge of managed copy, is delaying some requirements for studios until the second quarter of next year.

After all the pre-announcements, delays and whatnot, everybody is allowed to be a little leery of any more unofficial information regarding 'The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy'. However, it must be noted that UK retailer The Hut has now it back up for preorder with a release date of February 8, 2010. So does its associate website SendIt. (Update: date changed by retailer)
