Blu-ray Sales, Jan. 4-10: Feast of Meatballs (Update)

During the week ended January 10, Sony Pictures' animated movie 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' was the top-selling title on Blu-ray, according to Nielsen Videoscan. 'The Hangover' followed close by, unexpectedly beating another new entry, 'The Final Destination', which only managed third place.

Here is the Blu-ray top 10 (previous week ranking in parenthesis:

Regarding Blu-ray market share for this week's releases, the biggest percentage was for 'The Final Destination', with 32% of its sales coming from Blu-ray. 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' got 18%, not as high as the record 24% BD market share for 'Up' during its first week on shelves, but significantly better than other animation titles released late 2009 (see blu-ray.com, November 19, 2009). 'Chuck: The Complete Second Season' (17th in the BD sales chart) got 20% Blu-ray market share.

Overall, BD sales revenue was $22.42 million, up 19.85% from the same week last year.

Packaged-media sales revenue was $163.90 million, down 2.59% year-on-year. Blu-ray accounted for 13.7% of that revenue.
