Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the classic action films 'The Running Man', 'Hard Rain', 'Drop Zone', and 'The Phantom' to Blu-ray on February 9th. All four films, which feature performances by such action stars as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Wesley Snipes, will be presented in 1080p AVC video accompanied by 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

During a Blu-ray-related forum held in Taipei (Taiwan), a BDA executive revealed that sales volumes of BD movie discs in the US, Europe and Japan in January-September 2009 increased 183%, 200% and 180% respectively from the same period in 2008. Global demand is expected to further increase as average BD player price drops from the current $193 to the $77 forecast for 2012.

All PS3 units "will be firmware-upgradeable to 3-D", according to gaming site Gamasutra, citing a Sony presentation for investors given on Wednesday, when Sony outlined its strategy for growing its key business. In principle, that involves only games, but reinforces hope for existing PS3s being enabled for 3-D movie watching.

An early announcement to retailers indicates that Anchor Bay Entertainment will release Michael Moore's latest documentary 'Capitalism: A Love Story' on Blu-ray on December 29, making it the first Moore film on high-definition disc. Only today, Best Buy is offering the LG BD370 Blu-ray player with Netflix streaming for $129.99 with free shipping. At the time of writing, this price is about $20 lower than what Amazon is asking for the same item, even though it must be noted that Amazon is also offering three free BD movies with the purchase of this player.

Two titles from Pixar Animation Studios and released by Disney were the top sellers in the week ended November 15, according to Nielsen VideoScan. 'Up' was the clear number one. 'Monsters, Inc.' followed, with Blu-ray sales so strong that they propelled the title to number 6 on the overall packaged-media sales chart. Update: top 10 and sales figures added.

Those Blu-ray owners looking to score the HBO miniseries 'John Adams' for a good price on Black Friday now have no reason to wait. Best Buy has put the award-winning series on sale for only $25, which is $55 less than MRSP and $20 less than what Amazon currently lists as the products price. Universal Studios Home Entertainment is going to expand the use of BD/DVD combos beyond family titles by re-releasing as combos several of its catalog titles already released on BD. The first titles to be thus rereleased include '8 Mile', 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Doom', 'End of Days', 'Jarhead', 'The Last Starfighter', 'The Rundown', and 'Street Fighter', which will reportedly come out as combos on January 5, 2010.

Morningstar Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Sci-fi film 'Lost City Raiders' to Blu-ray on January 5th in Canada. This made for TV movie starring James Brolin is the second Blu-ray to be released by the company ('A Christmas Carol' was the first). The latest version of Symantec's popular PC backup software, Norton Ghost 15, has added recovery media support for both BD-25 and BD-50 discs. Users who upgrade will now be able to back up their Windows 7 based computers onto a Blu-ray disc via an internal or external Blu-ray drive.

Palisades Tartan has informed on an email newsletter that it will release Park Chan-wook's "Vengeance Trilogy" (comprised of 'Sympathy for Mr Vengeance', 'Oldboy' and 'Lady Vengeance') on Blu-ray in the US in March 2010. At the moment no edition details are known, but they are likely to mirror those of the UK editions (see blu-ray.com's post of October 26).

Eureka Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Une Femme Mariee' to Blu-ray as part of their "Masters of Cinema" collection on January 25th in the UK. This disc will feature a newly restored 1.37:1 1080p video presentation, improved English subtitles, and accompanied by an 80-page book.

Sony Electronics has announced that owners of the Sony N460 Network Blu-ray Player will now be able to stream video content to the player as part of their standard Netflix subscription. Similar to other Netflix-streaming Blu-ray Players, content is delivered over an Internet connection to the player so it can displayed on the viewer's HDTV.

Marantz has announced that they are offering a $100 mail in rebate on the purchase of either the Marantz BD5004 or BD7004, from now until the end of the year. With the requirement that the player must be purchased from an authorized retailer to qualify, you are unlikely to find these units for less than their MRSP ($549 and $799, respectively), but the rebate is welcome by those looking to purchase the high-end Blu-ray Disc players.

When George Lucas announced that he would be directing three new Star Wars films, fans young and old built a level of anticipation not seen since the original trilogy first graced theater screens - at least until they met Jar Jar. So when Paramount announced they would revisit Star Trek with Lost co-creator J. J. Abrams at the helm, no one could blame Trekkies for being a tad apprehensive about what direction he would take with their beloved space- based series. The results, however, not only met fan's lofty expectations, but also those of film critics and general moviegoers alike. Thanks to Abram's efforts, Star Trek was both a critical and commercial success and - with today's Blu-ray release - is expected to be a home video success as well.

Warner Home Video has announced that they have launched a new program which allows owners trade in their Warner DVD titles for Blu-ray upgrades for as little as $7.95. To take advantage of the program, owners will be required to identify which titles they want to upgrade through the DVD2Blu site, and then mail-in their DVD discs to show proof of ownership. In 4-5 weeks they will receive Blu-ray copies of those same titles.
