Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Amazon Reveals Black Friday Blu-ray Deal Calendar

Amazon has leaked its own Black Friday Week deals in a calendar listing which titles are being discounted and when. The deals run a full eight days, from Monday, November 22 to Monday, November 29. Most of the promotions consist of Lightning Deals, which will run for four hours and while supplies last. In addition to these "doorbusters," Amazon promises over 2,700 titles at up to 70% off during the week.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps Blu-ray Coming Up

An early announcement to retailers indicates that Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps in a Collector's Edition Blu-ray on December 21. A digital copy will be included. This Oliver Stone sequel to his 1987 hit Wall Street stars Shia Labeouf, Carey Mulligan and Michael Douglas reprising his role as Gordon Gekko.

3D Content Hidden in Avatar Collector’s Edition Blu-ray

Inquisitive Blu-ray enthusiasts have found out that the Extended Collector's Edition Blu-ray of Avatar exclusively features two 3D bonus features in the form of "Easter Eggs": the movie trailer and a four-minute featurette titled Pandora Discovered, featuring 3D footage from the film, with narration by Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine.

Anime Blu-ray Wave from Funimation in February-March

FUNimation has revealed its Blu-ray slate for February-March 2011, with a dozen titles. They include two eagerly awaited anime movies: the second Evangelion feature, Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance, and Mamoru Hosoda's Summer Wars, previously only available as an import. Also on the schedule are several collections to be released within FUNimation's new, budget-priced S.A.V.E and Classic lines.

Best Buy has announced that, only during Monday, November 22, its Reward Zone program Silver Members will have exclusive early access to the store's Black Friday deals. A Bay of Blood, Deep Red Blu-ray Announced; Battle Royale Delayed

UK's Arrow Video has announced A Bay of Blood (Reazione a catena; Mario Bava, 1971) and Deep Red (Profondo rosso; Dario Argento, 1975) for Blu-ray release on December 6 and 13, respectively. The studio has also announced that the highly anticipated limited edition of Battle Royale has been delayed two weeks and will now be released on December 13.

Blu-ray Sales, Nov.8-14: Toys Beat Grown Ups (Update)

Toy Story 3 was again the top-selling title on Blu-ray, according to data from Nielsen VideoScan for the week ended November 14. The second and third places were for Grown Ups and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, respectively. Scott Pilgrim got 51% of its total sales from Blu-ray. Update: sales charts and figures added.

Artificial Eye has announced Certified Copy (Copie conforme) for Blu-ray release on January 17. This drama, directed by Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, where it earned Juliette Binoche the Best Actress Award.

List Price Drop for Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz 3-Disc Blu-ray Editions

Warner Home Video has reduced the suggested retail price of two major Blu-ray titles from its catalog: Gone with the Wind: Scarlett Edition and The Wizard of Oz : 3-Disc Emerald Edition. MSRP, initially $49.99, is now only $35.99. Actual pricing will vary according to the discount applied by individual retailers.

Walmart Announces Black Friday Deals

After days of rumors and leaked ad images, Walmart has officially announced its Black Friday deals. Most Walmart stores will open their doors at midnight on Friday, November 26. From that time, over 60 Blu-ray titles will be offered at a price of only $5, and over 30 more at $10. The "electronics event" will kick off at 5 a.m., with Blu-ray players starting at $69.

The Complete Metropolis Blu-ray Delayed One Week

Retailers are reporting that Kino Video's Blu-ray edition of The Complete Metropolis, originally scheduled for release on November 16, will now come out a week later, on November 23. Disc details and special features for this silent classic directed by Fritz Lang are unchanged.

According to TV Shows on DVD, Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release two TV season sets on Blu-ray on February 22, 2011, both starring women of somewhat questionable morals: Nurse Jackie: Season Two and Weeds: Season Six. Each of them will come in a two-disc set.

Germany: Blu-ray Unit Sales Double in Q1-Q3 2010, Drive Overall Growth

The German Federal Association for Audiovisual Media (BVV) has released figures for the home video market in January-September 2010. According to data from research firm GfK, a total of 7.3 million Blu-ray units were sold, 127% more than in the same period in 2009. Nearly one in ten (9.5%) movies sold was on Blu-ray. The revenue on Blu-ray software sales was 117 million euros, compared to 65 million euros last year.

They say it's not a double dip if you've been warned it was coming. From the minute the first, barebones edition of James Cameron's Avatar was announced, both the studio and the filmmakers let it be known that another, more extensive release was coming later in the year. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Lebanon for Blu-ray release on January 18, 2011. This war film, directed by Samuel Maoz, won the Golden Lion Award at the 2009 Venice Film festival, thus becoming the first film from Israel to win such an award. It is a personal look at the 1982 Lebanon War from the inside of an Israeli tank dispatched to search a bombarded hostile town.

This television drama series, starring Timothy Olyphant as a deputy US Marshal, is based on two novels and a short story by Elmore Leonard. It premiered on the FX network. Sony Pictures has announced that on January 25, 2011, it will release the 1981 animated movie Heavy Metal. This anthology film is based on stories from the science fiction/fantasy comics magazine of the same title (itself an adaptation of the French magazine Métal Hurlant). It features animated segments based on work by various writers and artists, including Dan O'Bannon, Richard Corben, Juan Giménez and Bernie Wrightson.
