Katherine Heigl plays Holly, an uptight entrepreneur. Josh Duhamel plays Messer, a dysfunctional sports director. Together, they star in
Life as We Know It, which sees this odd couple forced together after tragedy takes the lives of two mutual friends, and Holly and Messer are identified as their young daughter's god-parents. Out today on Blu-ray, this romantic comedy will likely require more suspension of disbelief than the usual affair, but might be worth a look for any fans of the genre.
Staff reviewer Kenneth Brown commented in his
Blu-ray review of Life as We Know It, "Duhamel and his tiny co-star give their all, but it simply isn't enough. Heigl, Berlanti, Deitchman and Robinson fumble the flick from the get-go and never recover. Luckily, Warner's Blu-ray release takes away some of the sting. While its supplemental package is as anemic as they come, its AV presentation is quite good."
Today, Anchor Bay is releasing both the 1978 original and 2010 remake of
I Spit on Your Grave on Blu-ray, giving fans the chance to both titles for the first time in high definition. Both tell the story of Jennifer Hill, a young writer who retreats to a remote cabin in order to work on her next book in solitude. After arriving in town, she is violently assaulted by some local and left for dead. Or so they thought.
For the
Blu-ray review of I Spit on Your Grave, staff reviewer Martin Liebman commented, "To recap: take what is already one of the ultimate love-it-or-loathe it movies and remake it, this time leaving out all things the lovers loved and amping up all the things the loathers loathed, and the result is a movie that doesn't have much of an audience left." He continues, "Anchor Bay's Blu-ray release does feature an impressive technical presentation, but the rather small supplemental package will disappoint fans."
Paranormal Activity was a surprise horror hit, utilizing an original take on the genre and explosive word of mouth. With great success comes many sequels, and Paramount wasted no time getting
Paranormal Activity 2 out in theaters, and now out on Blu-ray. Like many before it, this sequel is more of the same as the original, meaning that those waiting for this Blu-ray release should know exactly what horror they are getting into.
Staff reviewer Martin Liebman commented in his
Blu-ray review of Paranormal Activity 2, "What was then a novel idea seems tired and uninspired now, primarily because there's just almost nothing new about this entry." He continues, "Paramount's Blu-ray release of Paranormal Activity 2 seems to replicate the film's visual and aural scheme perfectly. The real shame is the lack of extra content."
