Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Further PlayStation Network Delays Expected

Patrick Seybold, Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media at Sony Computer Entertainment America, has issued a statement concerning the current status of the PlayStation Network and the company's ongoing efforts to restore service to PSN members. Last week, SECA representatives suggested the Sony Online Entertainment servers would be online at this point. However, Seybold is now being tasked with informing members the company is no longer sure how long the service will be down.

L’Âge d’Or Detailed

The British Film Institute will release Luis Buñuel's controversial L'Âge d'Or (1930) as a Dual Format Edition on May 30th. The release will also include a new High-Definition transfer of 1960 restoration of the legendary short Un Chien Andalou (1929), which created a massive scandal at its premiere. In addition to the restoration score, based on Buñuel's notes, the BFI has also commissioned musicmakers Mordant Music (who re-scored an array of 70s and 80s public information films and documentary shorts produced by the Central Office of Information (COI) last year for the startling BFI DVD release MisinforMation) to create an alternative soundtrack option, which is premiered on this release.

Mars Needs Moms 2D and 3D Blu-rays (Updated)

In an early announcement to retailers, Disney has revealed 2D and 3D releases of Mars Needs Moms will arrive on Blu-ray on August 9th. The computer-animated family adventure marks the final film from Robert Zemeckis' studio ImageMovers Digital, and features the voice talent of Joan Cusack, Dan Fogler, Tom Everett Scott and more. The 2-disc 2D release of the film is set to include Blu-ray and DVD copies of Mars Needs Moms, while the 4-disc 3D Combo Pack is set to include both 3D and 2D Blu-rays, as well as standard DVD and Digital copies of the film.

Johnnie To's Running Out of Time Coming to Blu-ray

Hong Kong-based distributors Kam & Ronson Enterprises have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Johnnie To's Running Out of Time (1999), starring Andy Lau (Running on Karma, House of Flying Daggers), Lau Ching Wan (Mad Detective, Overheard), and Yoyo Mung Ka-Wai (Expect the Unexpected). In 2000, the film won Best Actor Award (Andy Lau) at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Street date is May 12.

François Ozon's Potiche Heading to Blu-ray

Independent distributors Music Box Films have revealed that on July 19th they will release on Blu-ray acclaimed French director François Ozon's Potiche a.k.a Trophy Wife (2010), starring Gérard Depardieu (Barocco, Cyrano de Bergerac), Catherine Deneuve (Repulsion, Belle de Jour), Fabrice Luchini (Intimate Strangers), and Judith Godrèche (Speak to Me of Love). Last year, the film was screened at the Venice Film Festival.

French distributors Gaumont have announced that on June 1 they will release on Blu-ray Abel Ferry's Vertige a.k.a High Lane (2009), starring Fanny Valette (Little Jerusalem), Johan Libéreau (Cold Showers), Raphaël Lenglet (Home Sweet Home), and Nicolas Giraud (The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec). The film tells the story of a group of climbers who embark on an extraordinary journey through the mountains of Croatia.

Tenebrae UK Blu-ray Detailed

Generally regarded as one of Italian horror maestro Dario Argento's finest films, the terrifying Tenebrae marked the director's return to the "giallo" (mystery-thriller) genre in which he first made his name, after making two supernatural themed films, Suspiria (1977) and Inferno (1980). Banned on video in the UK until 1999, when it was released in a cut form, the film was finally passed uncut and uncensored in 2002. Now, on June 13th this definitive version of Tenebrae comes on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK, boasting a brand new HD restoration of the film and a host of extra features.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules Blu-ray

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules is coming to Blu-ray on June 21st. Based on the 2011 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Best Book Series, the sequel reunites the original Diary of a Wimpy Kid's young cast, taking sibling rivalry to new levels in the process. The 3-disc Blu-ray release will include both standard DVD and Digital copies of the film, as well as a number of special features.

The week ending 05/01/11 did not offer any significant new releases, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 managed to remain the top seller on the Blu-ray sales chart for a third consecutive week. Strong Blu-ray sales for Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Tron: Legacy have been the driving force behind the recent record setting trend for the format. Previous to the week ending 04/24/2011, blu-ray sales as market share of total package media sales, registered successive weekly records of 25%, 26%, and 27% respectively.

Fox Home Entertainment Launches Fox World Cinema

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is launching a new label, Fox World Cinema, designed to spotlight diverse films from around the globe. The label will feature selections from the Cannes, Toronto and Venice Film Festivals, and will exist in tandem with Fox International Productions (FIP). Fox World Cinema's debut titles are set to include Korea's The Yellow Sea, India's Dum Maaro Dum, Italy's Vallanzasca: Angel of Evil and China's The Butcher, the Chef and the Swordsman.

Twilight Time, a specialty label which focuses on releasing vintage 20th Century Fox films previously unavailable on DVD, have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Michael Curtiz's The Egyptian (1954), starring Jean Simmons (Hamlet, Spartacus), Gene Tierney (Heaven Can Wait, Laura), Victor Mature (Samson and Delilah), and Edmund Purdom (The King's Thief). In 1942, Michael Curtiz won Oscar for Best Director for the timeless Casablanca.

Bridget Jones's Diary and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Blu-rays

Lionsgate has also announced the Blu-ray release of Bridget Jones's Diary and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Bridget Jones's Diary stars Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant in a romantic comedy based on the Helen Fielding novel of the same name. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas looks at World War II through the eyes of an eight-year-old German boy who strikes up a friendship with a young Jewish concentration camp detainee. Both titles will arrive on July 19th.

Lionsgate has announced the long-awaited Blu-ray release of director Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amélie. Nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography, Audrey Tautou stars as Amélie, an adorable, painfully shy young woman who discovers she has a gift for helping others. Lucasfilm Reveals Star Wars Blu-ray Saga Details and Box Art

Lucasfilm previously announced that "all will be revealed" concerning the Star Wars Saga Blu-ray sets on May 4th at 6am PST with an e-mail message directing fans to a special page on StarWars.com. The details and images revealed include official box art, a disc-by-disc breakdown of the bonus content available in the Complete Saga Blu-ray box set, confirmation that each film will feature a DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1 surround track, and word that fans attending this year's San Diego Comic-Con will get an early look at some of the collection's exclusive special features.

Two New 3D Blu-ray Recorders for UK Announced by Panasonic

Panasonic UK have announced two new 3D Blu-ray recorders, the BWT-800 and BWT-700. Both have the ability to playback Full HD 3D Blu-rays and have the ability to record HD TV broadcasts to their internal hard drives and to BD-R/RE discs. They also have SDHC slots which can play AVCHD content for home video recordings from compatible camcorders.

Sony Release Extra Information on PSN Intrusion, New SOE Leaks

SCEA representative, Patrick Seybold has released new information on the intrusion into the PlayStation Network. It details how passwords were stored and how credit card info was kept safe from prying eyes. Contrary to earlier reports it seems Sony have managed to keep both safe. In other news Sony Online Entertainment have informed people that 25m accounts have had their data stolen and at least 23,000 credit cards have leaked.

Optimum Home Entertainment have announced that on June 13th they will release on Blu-ray Charles Frend's The Cruel Sea (1953). The film is based on the famous novel by Nicholas Monserrat, which chronicles life at sea during WWII on a boat tasked with protecting convoys and seeking and destroying U-boats.

The British Film Institute have announced the Dual Format Edition release of legendary Czech surrealist Jan Švankmajer's award-winning 1988 feature film Něco z Alenky a.k.a Alice. Combining a live-action Alice (Kristýna Kohoutová) with a stop-motion Wonderland filled with threatening, bizarre characters, Švankmajer's deliberately crude style of animation, use of close-ups and rich design work lend this unique adaptation of Lewis Carroll's perennial literary classic a pervading sense of unease and a menacing dream-logic which marries a sly visual wit with piercing psychological insight.

After telling his girlfriend that he's married as a means of avoiding real commitment, a plastic surgeon (Sandler) must recruit a fake family to prove his honesty. Just Go With It also stars Nick Swardson (You Don't Mess With the Zohan), international supermodel Brooklyn Decker and Dave Matthews (You Don't Mess With the Zohan).
