Angels' Wild Women Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman June 20, 2020

Note: This film is available as part of Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection.

Disc Seven of The Masterpiece Collection offers two Adamson efforts with at least a tangential connection to biker gangs. Angels' Wild Women focuses on, well, women, while Satan's Sadists is given over more to men.

This is one of apparently at least a few films of Adamson that contains footage shot at the now notorious Spahn's Ranch, and that element, along with some kind of freaky "cult" aspects and even an ostensible sacrifice or two, may make this a bit "too close for comfort" to those with Manson-phobia. The main story here is a kind of revenge fantasy that plays out after a Black female biker named Cool Chick (Magie Bembry) is assaulted and her biker gang (all women) decide to teach the men in this tale a lesson. A cult shows up later in the film, and there are at least a couple of other detours, making the plot here another patchwork quilt of ideas. There's quite a bit of padding on hand with some fairly endless scenes of folks just toolin' around on their hogs.

Angels' Wild Women Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  3.5 of 5

Angels' Wild Women is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Severin Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.84:1. While I'd rate this one of the better transfers in this set, it does have some age related wear and tear, especially in some of the Spahn's Ranch location work, where there are some noticeable scratches. Otherwise, though, damage, while recurrent, tends to be rather minor. The palette is nicely suffused, and detail levels are generally above average, though as with many of the offerings in this set, clarity and fine detail kind of ebb and flow. Blues are especially vivid in some of the outdoor material. Grain resolves naturally for the most part, but can look a little "swarmy" at times, especially against some of the brighter backgrounds.

Angels' Wild Women Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  3.5 of 5

Angels' Wild Women features a serviceable DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track that shows just a bit of distortion in some of the music, but which preserves dialogue cleanly enough. There are occasional pops, and at times the midrange can sound slightly muffled, something that is probably most evident with regard to underscore. English subtitles are available via the button on your remote.

Angels' Wild Women Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  2.0 of 5

There are some surprisingly good performances in this film, but it's just kind of freaky to see the real Spahn's Ranch being used for a film that at least hints at some of the Manson madness. This transfer features generally solid video and audio, at least within the confines of this overall set. Once again, the commentary by Samuel M. Sherman may be worth the price of admission for certain Adamson fans.
