Jessi's Girls Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman June 20, 2020

Note: This film is available as part of Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection.

Disc Nine of The Masterpiece Collection aggregates three of Adamson's sexploitation efforts, including one with a bonafide (hard core) porn star, and another with (perhaps even more incredibly) a two time BAFTA nominee (albeit courtesy of the frequent Adamson and Sherman technique of co-opting a previously released film).

As your resident Utah born and raised reviewer, I can tell you they didn’t teach Mormon history the way it’s portrayed in Jessi’s Girls. A young Mormon couple is shown on their way to the “Promised Land”, when fate intervenes and the husband is tortured and killed and the wife is raped and seriously wounded. That woman is Jessica, AKA Jessi (Sondra Currie), who learns a little pistol and/or shotgun slingin’ from an old pro named Rufe (Rod Cameron) and then, The Dirty Dozen style (albeit with rather curvaceous females), springs a bunch of women convicts to help her on a quest for vengeance. This all seems intentionally modeled on Hannie Caulder, with liberal doses of Adamson sex scenes interspersed.

Jessi's Girls Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  2.0 of 5

Jessi's Girls is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Severin Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.78:1. This is a pretty widely variant looking presentation. When this is in its better moments, the palette can pop appealingly, offering a bit of warmth to outdoor scenes in particular. But color temperature ebbs and flows, as in fact does saturation. This is fairly soft and fuzzy looking, with an at times quite thick grain field. There are quite a few scratches and other signs of damage and some sections here look slightly blue.

Jessi's Girls Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  3.5 of 5

Jessi's Girls features a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track that exhibits some intermittent age related issues like occasional pops, but which actually provides decent support for some of the jangly guitar cues and other underscore, as well as the film's dialogue (and occasional moans of passion). The track sounds pretty shallow, but has no really debilitating problems. English subtitles are available via the button on your remote.

Jessi's Girls Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  2.0 of 5

I'm tempted to make a joke about why the Mormons seen heading to Utah as the film opens featured only one wife, and I will joke that it's kind of funny that this film came out some six years before a famous song by Rick Springfield (could he have seen this as a child and subliminally buried the memory?). Those minor points of history aside, this is a pretty low rent vengeance tale spiced with interstitial sex scenes featuring the cast of typical Adamson pulchritude. Video here has issues, but audio sounds decent if improvable.
