Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

For the week ending on October 28th, Walt Disney's Secret of the Wings topped the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. The fourth film in Disney's direct-to-video Tinker Bell franchise, Secret of the Wings performed so strongly that it outperformed top sellers from weeks past like Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, Prometheus, and The Avengers.

Drafthouse Films to Distribute The Act of Killing

Lionsgate Signs Output Deal with Metropolitan

Lionsgate Films announced today that it has formed an output deal with French distributors Metropolitan Export. The announcement comes on the heels of similar partnership deals sealed by Lionsgate with StudioCanal in Germany, Nordisk Films in Scandinavia, Alliance's Aurum Producciones S.A. in Spain and Roadshow Pictures in Australia.

Disney Buys Lucasfilm, Announces New Star Wars Film

The Walt Disney Company has acquired Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in cash and stock. Disney's chairman, Rober Iger, made the announcement earlier today. The new owners have also announced plans to produce new Star Wars films. The first is expected to be released in 2015.

Barnes & Noble is having its second Criterion Collection sale of the year. The retail chain will offer 50% off MSRPs of all online and most in-store Criterion Blu-ray titles. It is also expected that Barnes & Noble will make several member and non-member coupons available throughout the duration of the Criterion sale. This deal ends on November 19th.

Street date is January 15, 2013.
