Blu-ray Sales: August 16-22: Project Hail Mary Grabs Achilles' Heel in Week Two

For the week that ended on August 22nd, Alliance Entertainment's Project Hail Mary topped the Blu-ray-only, overall packaged media and 4K UHD charts for the second week in a row. Second place went to Troy, which was released on remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD by Arrow Video, while third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Obsession (2025).

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Scream Factory and Shout Factory have announced their November batch of releases. They are: The Chow Yun-Fat Collection Volume One, The Family Man (2000), Women in Prison Collection (1971-1985), and The Transformers: The Movie (1986).

Ice Cream Man 4K Blu-ray

Alliance Entertainment is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man (2026), starring Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O'Reilly, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

The Rock 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Studios plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Michael Bay's The Rock (1996) with a new combo pack release, which is expected to arrive on the market before the end of the year.

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment will distribute The Weinstein Company's controversial documentary Bully a.k.a The Bully Project (2011). Directed by Lee Hirsch, the film won Award for Films of Conflict and Resolution at the Hamptons International Film Festival. The preliminary release date is February 12th.

The Weinstein Company Picks Up Snowpiercer

The Weinstein Company announced today that it has acquired the distribution rights for acclaimed Korean director Bong Joon-ho's upcoming film Snowpiercer (2013). The Weinstein Company will distribute the film in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Cinedigm Acquires Violet & Daisy

Cinedigm Entertainment Group has acquired the North American distribution rights to Geoffrey Fletcher's directorial debut Violet & Daisy, starring Cody Horn, Saoirse Ronan, Alexis Bledel, James Gandolfini, and Danny Trejo. The film will be released theatrically in 2013.

Hammer Films have announced that Terence Fisher's Dracula a.k.a Horror of Dracula (1958) will arrive on Blu-ray on March 18th. The classic film, which has recently been remastered and restored, stars Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Michael Gough.

Hugh Jackman's international career was launched by a 1998 London revival of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma!, in which Jackman starred as Curly. The production has become legendary, and Image Entertainment has announced a Blu-ray release of a recorded performance. The disc streets on December 4th, just in time for the theatrical release of Jackman's latest movie musical, Les Misérables.

When talking about this week's notable Blu-ray releases, we need to go back to November 9th; Sony released The Amazing Spider-Man, the rebooted beginning to the Spider-Man franchise. The worst thing anyone can say about the new film is how similar its setup is to Sam Raimi's 2002 box-office smash Spider-Man. Both The Amazing Spider-Man and the earlier film focus on how brainy high-schooler Peter Parker became...well, amazing .

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is bringing the long-awaited Battlestar Galactica spin-off film, Blood & Chrome, to Blu-ray early next year. The first of the film's ten chapters premieres this weekend on Machinima's YouTube channel, Machinima Prime, to be followed by a new chapter each week through the beginning of February. The upcoming Blu-ray release features an unrated cut of Blood and Chrome and streets on February 19, 2013.

Blu-ray Sales, October 29-November 4: The Campaign Rallies Top Sales

For the week ending on November 4th, Warner Bros' The Campaign topped the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. Director Jay Roach's politically-themed comedy did average business when it premiered last summer; the modestly-budgeted title grossed just under $94 million dollars worldwide, a slightly disappointing total given the star power of leads Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis.
