Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Funai Announces Next Blu-ray Player

Funai has announced that they will bring a new Blu-ray player to the market after seeing amazing success with their first offering. The B1-M110 will likely be sold under the Magnavox and Sylvania brand names similar to how their current offering is sold today. Little is known about the player, but we do know that it will offer DivX playback.

Resident Evil: Degeneration Gets Specs (Updated)

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed the specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Resident Evil: Degeneration', due to hit store shelves this winter, day-and-date with the DVD release. This all-CGI film picks up seven years after the fall of Raccoon City. Video will be presented in 1.78:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Grundig Reveals First Blu-ray Player

At IFA, German electronics manufacturer Grundig has announced that they will release their first Blu-ray player this December in Europe. The Grundig GDP 8800 BD will be BonusView (Profile v1.1) compatible and support decoding of all codecs except DTS-HD Master Audio, which it can bitstream to a compatible receiver.

Netlogic Announces Blu-ray Player

The Swedish electronics manufacturer Netlogic has announced their first Blu-ray Disc player - the DMTech BDP810. According to the brief spec sheet, this will be a BonusView (Profile v1.1) player with 5.1 analog outs and support for DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD. The player is set to be release in October; official pricing has yet to be announced.

Mongol Gets Delayed Until October

New Line Home Entertainment is conjunction with Warner Home Video has revealed that the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Mongol' has been delayed until October 14th. The title, which was originally scheduled for a September 9th release, will be released on a BD-25 featuring 2.40:1 1080p VC-1 video.

Hancock Gets Blu-ray Date

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will release the Will Smith summer hit 'Hancock' on Blu-ray on November 25th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time, but expect the typical 1080p AVC video accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Saving God Announced for Blu-ray

Echo Bridge Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Ving Rhames film 'Saving God' to Blu-ray on October 14th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time, but previous Echo Bridge releases featured 1080i MPEG-2 video with PCM or Dolby Digital soundtracks.

Shriek Show Announces Blu-ray Titles

Shriek Show, a horror film arm of Media Blasters, has announced their first two Blu-ray titles, both of which are due to hit store shelves on November 25th. Technical specs and special features for the titles - 'Flesh for the Beast (Uncut)' and 'Shadow: Dead Riot (Uncut)' - are currently unannounced.

Sony Intros Blu-ray HTIB

Sony has announced that they will release the BDV-IT1000 home theater system with Blu-ray support. It will be one of the first systems to support BD-Live and full support of all audio codecs. Additionally, the system will have two HDMI inputs (for your PS3 and HD TiVo) and feature super-slim "pocky" speakers with wireless surrounds.

Sony has announced that they will release a new ES-line Blu-ray Disc player promising the ultimate high definition experience to consumers. The Sony BDP-S5000ES will be BD-Live enabled and feature numerous Sony technologies in order to ensure it provides the best audio and video processing of Blu-ray discs.

Vinpower Adds Blu-ray to their Product Line

Vinpower Digital has announced that they will add Blu-ray support to their Titan, Cube, and Daisy Chain lines of optical disc replication hardware. The popular Titan line will support anywhere between 3 to 8 Blu-ray drives with a capacity up to 1000 discs, while the new Blu Cube will support 1 to 2 drives and 25 discs with a tiny footprint.

Denon Planning BD-Live Blu-ray Player?

While Denon's booth at CEDIA will feature their existing line of Blu-ray Disc players/transports - the Panasonic-based DVD-2500BT and DVD-3800BD - the company is currently planning to release a new "flagship" model by March of next year. While no word was given as to what improvements may be incorporated into the player, it is widely expected to be Denon's first BD-Live player.

Disney Reveals Upcoming Platinum Blu-ray Titles

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed the next five Platinum Blu-ray titles which will trickle out to store shelves over the next two years. Those titles include 'Pinocchio', 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', 'Fantasia', 'Fantasia 2000', and 'Beauty and the Beast', though not necessarily in that order.

Old School Coming to Blu-ray

In an early announcement to retailers, Dreamworks Home Entertainment in conjunction with Paramount Home Entertainment have revealed that they will bring the comedy 'Old School' to Blu-ray on December 16th in its unrated form. Details of the release have yet to be announced, but you can expect it to be similar to previous HD DVD release.

NBA Championship on Blu-ray; Torchwood Back on Schedule

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'NBA Champions 2007-2008' to Blu-ray on November 4th, one week after the DVD release. The only technical spec revealed at this time is that the release, which provides highlights of the 2007-2008 NBA season, will come on a BD-25.

New Line Home Entertainment in conjunction with Warner Home Video has revealed the final specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Sex and the City: The Movie', due to hit store shelves on September 23rd, day-and-date with the DVD release. The 151 minute extended cut will come on a BD-50 utilizing 1.85:1 1080p VC-1 and a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

JVC Joins Blu-ray Game

JVC has announced that they have launched a DNLA compliant Blu-ray home theater system. Part of their Sophisti line of products, the NX-BD3 system comprises of two front speakers and a subwoofer, along with the Blu-ray player. There is also an optional wireless adapter upgrade that allows you to stream media wirelessly over a network.

Stop-motion animation is somewhat of a rare entertainment medium nowadays. The amount of effort needed to create a feature-length presentation is so massive that even legendary claymation studio Aardman used CGI for their latest feature film 'Flushed Away' (which doesn't take away from the fact that it is an excellent film). So when Hollywood decides to release a stop-motion film, it commonly causes a huge commotion. Such is the case for this week's Disney Blu-ray release of 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'.

Sherwood Adds Blu-ray to Newcastle Line

Sherwood is planning to announce at CEDIA their entry into the Blu-ray Disc player market. The audio-focused company will reveal plans to release the Newcastle BDP-6003 in September for $499 followed by the Newcastle BDP-5003 in October for $299. Both players will be BonusView (Profile v1.1) compatible as well as internally decode all audio formats (including DTS-HD Master Audio).

The Incredible Hulk Gets Details/Dated

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will release 'The Incredible Hulk' for Blu-ray on October 21st, day-and-date with the DVD release. The two two-disc set (a BD-50 with a DVD containing a digital copy of the film) will feature 1080p VC-1 video accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Philips to Demonstrate 3-D Blu-ray at IFA

Philips has announced that they will be showcasing a new 3-D Blu-ray technology at IFA, which begins this Friday in Germany. The company will be showing a 2D-plus-Depth Blu-ray player which can display 3D content on both stereoscopic (requires special glasses) and auto-stereoscopic (requires no glasses) displays.

Panasonic Intros Blu-ray/DVD/VHS Combo Player

Panasonic has announced that they will launch the DMR-BR630V in Japan which will feature support for all mainstream video formats (sorry LaserDisc owners - no soup for you). The player will feature a 6X Blu-ray Burner with support for Blu-ray, DVD, and CD, as well as a VHS deck. Additionally, it will feature a 320GB hard drive so you can easily transfer video from one format to the other.

Hellboy 2 Blu-ray Details Emerge

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has revealed some specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army', which when announced will come day-and-date with the DVD release. The standard Blu-ray will come as a two-disc release. There will also be a "Collector's Set" which will add a limited edition Golden Army statue and replica excerpt from director Guillermo del Toro's journal.

Extra Features Released for WALL-E Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has released the special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'WALL-E', due to hit store shelves on November 18th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The release will come as either a two-disc set or three-disc set with a digital copy of the film. Similar to the Blu-ray release of 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian', there will only be a $5 difference in price between the regular and digital copy versions of the release.

Smithsonian Channel in conjunction with Infinity Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Stories from the Vaults - Season 1' to Blu-ray on September 23rd, day-and-date with the DVD release.
