Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

The Dark Knight: December 9th

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the summer blockbuster hit 'The Dark Knight' to Blu-ray on December 9th, day-and-date with the DVD release. This two-disc special edition will be Warner's first BD-Live Blu-ray title, as well as come with a digital copy of the film. Video will be presented as 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

ONKYO DV-BD606 Blu-ray player

The details have been publicly announced for the ONKYO DV-BD606 player. On the ONKYO web site in their 2008-2009 downloadable brochure the ONKYO DV-BD606 is being featured. The specifications are not detailed but it will output Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio via Bit Stream. Support for Deep Color, Divx and 1080p at 24fps. Upscaling to 1080p is also included.

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Henry Poole is Here' to Blu-ray on November 4th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time, but you can expect to see a 1080p AVC video presentation accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

The Incredible Hulk Coming to UK

Universal Studios Home Entertainment UK has announced that they will bring 'The Incredible Hulk' to Blu-ray in the UK on October 13th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 1080p accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. Retailer HMV will get exclusive artwork for this release.

Akira Coming to Japan and the U.S. (Updated)

Bandai Visual Entertainment announced today that they will release on Blu-ray Disc the film that introduced the world of animé to the western audience, 'Akira.' Directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, Akira will be released on Blu-ray in Japan by Bandai Entertainment Inc. on February 20 and shortly thereafter in the U.S. on February 24 under the Honneamise label.

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the animated film 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' to Blu-ray on November 11th, day-and-date with the DVD releasing. This latest edition to the Star Wars saga will come on a BD-50 featuring 1080p VC-1 video accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Iron Man Blu-ray Recalled, But No Delay (UPDATED)

The forums are lit up this morning with news that the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Iron Man' has been recalled. A few weeks back, some of those receiving review copies reported trouble playing the disc in their Blu-ray players. Apparently, there is an authoring problem with the disc, and distributors have been issued direction to send back all product.

Final Hellboy 2 Specs

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has revealed the final specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army', which is due to hit store shelves on November 11th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Coming on a BD-50, video will be presented as 1.85:1 1080p accompanied by a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Universal Plans UK Blu-ray Releases

Universal Studios Home Entertainment UK has announced specs for the upcoming UK Blu-ray release of 'The Thing', 'Leatherheads', 'Step Up 2 The Streets', and 'Land of the Dead'. Specific release dates are still undetermined, though it appears that 'Leatherheads' will hit stores on October 20th with the other titles still undetermined.

Get Smart Gets Blu-ray Date

Warner Home Video has revealed that they will bring the Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway comedy 'Get Smart' to Blu-ray on November 4th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time. The only known extras at this time are deleted and extended scenes. We expect to hear more about this title as we get closer to the release date.

Marantz Officially Announces BD7003

Marantz USA has officially announced their new Blu-ray Disc player which was first shown during CEDIA earlier this month. The Marantz BD7003 is a BonusView capable player coming at a much lower price point than the company's first offering, the BD8002. While a complete list of specs is still forthcoming, we do have a preliminary list to dive into.

Panasonic to Display 3D Blu-ray Technology at CEATEC

At the upcoming CEATEC show in Japan, Panasonic will be displaying 3D technology based on the Blu-ray format. Officially, the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has not approved a single method for Blu-ray use, but Panasonic hopes that their display will convince those parties involved to select their method.

Death Proof Coming to Blu-ray; Planet Terror Too (Updated)

In an early announcement to retailers, The Weinstein Company has revealed that they will bring 'Death Proof' and its Grindhouse partner 'Planet Terror' to Blu-ray on December 16th. As this is an unofficially announcement, no technical specs or special features were announced at this time.

Best TV on Blu-ray Nominees

Nominations for the Fifth Annual TV DVD awards were announced, including an award for "Best TV on Blu-ray". The awards are presented by Home Media Magazine in cooperation with DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group and the Entertainment Merchants Association. The nominees aren't surprising in the least, as they represent four of the most critically acclaimed TV series.

First Transformers BD-Live Material Revealed

Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed that they will release its first BD-Live feature - a video called "Robot Ninjas' - for the 'Transformers' Blu-ray on September 30th. The video will focus entirely on the battle between Bumblebee and Barricade, showcasing home videos and animatics gathered from the film's stunt crew.

Anime Blu-ray Sales Double in Japan

According to the Japan Video Software Association, sales of anime Blu-ray titles in Japan during the first half of the year have nearly doubled from the same time last year. Representing ¥2,266,000,000 in sales (1.6% of the total market), Blu-ray anime title sales are expected to continue to increase throughout the remainder of the year.

In an early announcement to retailers, The Weinstein Company has revealed that they will bring 'Lucky Number Slevin' to Blu-ray on November 18th. As this is an unofficial announcement, no technical specs or special features have been announced at this time. You can expect to see at least all the special features from the previous HD DVD release, which include audio commentary, making of featurette, deleted scenes, and an alternate ending.

UK Gets Dark Knight Date; US Next?

In an early report to retailers, Warner Home Video UK has revealed that they will release the Christian Bale blockbuster 'The Dark Knight' for Blu-ray on December 8th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The two-disc set will likely feature those specs recently reported, including a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Zoe Vision in conjunction with Anthem Entertainment have announced that they will bring 'Rush: Snakes & Arrows Live' to Blu-ray on November 25th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Best Buy Brings Elton John to Blu

Best Buy Canada has announced that they will release 'Elton John: The Red Piano Show' for Blu-ray on October 28th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The three-disc set, which comes with two CDs of the "Red Piano" concert, will feature 14 fan-favorite songs from across Elton's career. Extras include a documentary on the development of the show.
