Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Fox Details Raging Bull Blu-ray Release

MGM Home Entertainment in conjunction with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment have revealed the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Raging Bull', which is due to hit store shelves on February 10th. For this release, video will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

The Dark Knight Sells 600K on First Day Sales

Reports are in, and the Warner Brothers Blu-ray release of 'The Dark Knight' sold approximately 600,000 copies in the US, Canada, and UK on Tuesday, which works out to 20% of all home media sales for the title. This single day accomplishment blows away the previous record holder 'Iron Man' which sold approximately 250,000 on its first day of release.

High School Musical Announced for Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the original 'High School Musical: Remix' to Blu-ray on February 17th. Technical specs have yet to be announced at this time, but you can expect 1080p AVC and a lossless audio track from Disney, similar to their other Blu-ray releases.

Blu-ray Players Sell Big on Black Friday

According to a report from NPD Group unit DisplaySearch, consumers purchased 147,000 stand-alone Blu-ray Disc players during the week of Thanksgiving, which includes the popular Black Friday. These sales generated $30 Million in revenue (averaging to a little more than $200 per player), which was triple from a year ago even though prices have significantly dropped.

Netflix Sees Blu-ray Adoption Explode

Despite raising rental fees for Blu-ray users, the popular online movie renter has seen the number of Blu-ray users explode over 500,000, meeting year-end projections over a month early. The company believes that cheaper Blu-ray players along with a struggling economy mean that more users are opting to stay home and watch movies rather than venturing to their local theaters.

First Reports In: The Dark Knight Smashes UK Blu-ray Records

The first numbers are in, and the Blu-ray release of Warner Brothers 'The Dark Knight' sold 107,730 copies on its first day of release in the UK, representing 21% of total sales for the title. Last month, the total number of Blu-ray Discs sold in the UK was 463,000, making this one day record-breaking gross that much more impressive.

Blu-ray Surpasses DVD in Japan

According to the latest GfK Retail and Technology Japan data, Blu-ray recorders broke the 50% barrier during the first week of November, meaning that unit sales of Blu-ray recorders surpassed that of DVD recorders for the first time ever. Compared to the same time last year, when Blu-ray's market share was only 10%, the format has shown rapid growth.

Paramount Filming Special Feature for Star Trek VI Blu-ray Release

The St. Paul, Minnesota theater group behind the popular "A Klingon Christmas Carol" will soon be filming a special feature for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country', which is timed to coincide with the May release of the new "Star Trek" film. The group will perform Shakespeare's "Hamlet", replacing the characters with Klingons from the series.

Mitsubishi Releases Blu-ray DVR in Japan

Mitsubishi Electronics has released the 'DVR-BF2000', a Blu-ray Disc DVR with the ability to write files recorded on the internal 500GB hard drive to a BD-R/BD-RE disc. The devise also features two digital tuners so that you can watch one program while recording another. Additionally, the DVR supports DVD and features an SD card slot.

The film stars Robert De Niro as middle-aged Hollywood producer as he tries to juggle an actual life with an outrageous series of crises in his day job. The Venture Bros. Season 3 Coming to Blu-ray

Cartoon Network has announced that they will bring their Adult Swim hit 'The Venture Brothers: Season 3' to Blu-ray on March 24th, day-and-date with the DVD release. This three-disc set will feature all 13 uncensored episodes along with deleted scenes and audio commentaries. The set will also include a CD of 20 tracks featured in the show (not available with the DVD release).

Chocolate Coming to US for Valentine's Day

Kurosawa Box Coming to Blu-ray

The 'Akira Kurosawa Blu-ray Box (Limited Edition)' is coming to Japan on February 6th, and it will feature four of the legendary directors best known films, including 'Rashomon', 'Ran', 'Madadayo', and 'The Quiet Duel (Shizukanaru Ketto)' in stunning high definition. For the four-disc set, video will be presented in 1080p and accompanied by a mono PCM Japanese soundtrack.

Blue Underground Announces Two Evil Eyes

Blue Underground has announced that they will release the George Romero and Dario Argento double feature 'Two Evil Eyes' for Blu-ray on March 31st. Details Emerge For Neil Young Blu-ray Archives

Details have emerged with regards to the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Neil Young : Archives Volume One (1963-1972)', which has an unofficial release date of February 24th. This 10-disc set will feature 128 tracks, including 43 unreleased songs and 13 that have never been heard in public. The documentary 'Journey Through the Past' will also be included in the set.

Baraka Selected for Blu-Ribbon Showcase

MPI Home Video has announced that their critically acclaimed Blu-ray release of 'Baraka' has been selected for the Blu-Ribbon Showcase at Blu-Con 1.0, a one-day conference advancing the creation, production and distribution of Blu-ray Disc. Christopher Reyna, the restoration director for the release, will be presenting the disc on December 8th at 4:15PM at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
