Dracula (1958) 4K Blu-ray

Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

One Night Only Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Gwendoline Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

This Week on Blu-ray: August 31-September 6

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

Rob Halford Launches New Label; Promises Blu-ray

Legendary rocker Rob Halford has launched his own record label - Metal God Records - and plans to release his concert 'Crucible World Tour - Live in Anaheim' on Blu-ray this Fall, day-and-date with the DVD release. This will be the first release from the new label, though not the first for Halford who released his 'Halford: Resurrection World Tour - Live at Rock in Rio III' on Blu-ray earlier this year.

Nu Metro Adds Sony for South Africa Blu-ray Distro

Nu Metro Home Entertainment - a South African company which owns licenses for distribution of films from five major movie studios - has announced that they have signed a deal to distribute Sony Pictures films in South Africa on both Blu-ray and DVD. The agreement will allow high definition fans in South Africa to get their hands on more Blu-ray content.

Two Girls and a Guy Being Prepped for Blu-ray

According to a new interview with writer/director James Toback - and retailer listings of the title - his 1997 film 'Two Girls and a Guy' will be coming to Blu-ray in a few months via 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The film stars Robert Downey Jr. as a bachelor with two girlfriends played by Heather Graham and Natasha Gregson Wagner.

Friday, Menace II Society Heading to Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring three "urban titles" to Blu-ray on September 8th, including 'Friday: Deluxe Edition', 'Set It Off: Deluxe Edition', and 'Menace II Society: Deluxe Edition'. All three titles will be presented in 1080p AVC with 'Friday' receiving a newly remixed 7.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, and the other two receiving 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.

Intel Chipset with Blu-ray for Ultra-thin Laptops

At the Computex fair in Taiwan, Intel Corporation has presented Mobile Intel GS40 Express, a value chipset for new ultra-thin laptops. It will feature integrated Blu-ray playback, with native hardware-based decoding of HD video streams (AVC, VC1, MPEG), and native support for digital displays with integrated HDMI with HDCP key.

Anvil Documentary Blu-ray Details and Guitar Giveaway

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has made public the details for the Blu-ray release of the documentary 'Anvil!: The Story of Anvil', which is due to hit British store shelves on June 15, day-and-date with the DVD. To celebrate the release, Amazon is giving away a guitar signed by the two lead members of Anvil.

LG HR400, a BD player with DVB-T and Hard Drive

Korean consumer electronics maker LG has announced the HR400, a Blu-ray player for the European market that will include a DVB-T and analog TV tuner and a 160GB hard drive to record programs on. Also supported will be YouTube access and DivX playback. However, no optical disc recording will be possible. Price will be 599 euros.

Torchwood: CoE Gets Confirmed for July Bump

BBC Home Entertainment in conjunction with Warner Home Video has announced that the Blu-ray release of 'Torchwood: Children of Earth' has been bumped up to a July 28th release date, day-and-date with the DVD release. Technical specs remain the same with a 1080p VC-1 video encode accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack.

Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead Coming This July

BBC Home Entertainment in conjunction with Warner Home Video have announced that they will bring 'Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead' to Blu-ray on July 28th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented on a BD-50 in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 2.0 Dolby Digital soundtrack.

The Spirit Tops UK Blu-ray Sales Chart

During the week of May 25-May 31, 'The Spirit' was the top-selling title on Blu-ray in the United Kingdom. Following in places two and three were 'Defiance' and 'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans', both of which showed great strength in their second week on shelves. The top five was completed by 'Seven Pounds' and 'The Reader'.

Sony Adds Features to Blu-Code Software

Sony Creative Software has announced the availablity of their recently updated professional high definition video encoder Blu-Code v3.0. The upgrade adds a number of key encoding tools, such as noise reduction filters, new scaling lists, disc burn-image creator, and a Results View A/B split screen comparison.

B&O Adds Blu-ray to Their HDTV

The high-end audio/video company Bang & Olufsen has announced that they have added a Blu-ray Disc player to the latest version of the BeoVision 7-40 40-inch LCD HDTV as well as 120Hz processing for the smoothed images possible. The optional drive is fully compliant with BD-Live Blu-ray discs.

Panasonic Pushes Portable Blu-ray Player to June

Panasonic has announced that they have pushed the release of their upcoming portable Blu-ray player, the Panasonic DMP-BD15, to June. Originally announced at E3 in January for a May release, this world's first portable Blu-ray player features all the technology and features from the company's DMP-BD60 and DMP-BD80 standalone players.

More Black Crowes on the Way

Eagle Rock Entertainment has announced that they will release 'The Black Crowes: Warpaint Live' to Blu-ray on July 14th, two weeks after the DVD release. Their first release 'The Black Crowes: Freak 'N' Roll… Into the Fog' hit store shelves back in 2006. Technical specs have yet to be announced, though you can expect a similar presentation to other Eagle Rock Blu-ray releases, which includes a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

FUNimation Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Full Metal Panic!: The Second Raid - Complete Collection' to Blu-ray on August 11th. No technical specs have been announced for this release at this time, but we do know that all the episodes will be spread over two Blu-ray discs.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry' to Blu-ray on July 21st. This Adam Sandler and Kevin James comedy will come on a BD-25, with video being presented in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

The titles include 'About Last Night', 'Starman', 'Blue Thunder', and 'St. Elmo's Fire'. Video for all four titles will be presented in 1080p AVC accompanied by 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.

Sony and TF1 Partner to Distribute Blu-ray in France

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has entered a joint venture with French distributor TF1 Vidéo to distribute DVD and Blu-ray Discs in France, starting June 1. The group will distribute a common catalog of more than 6,000 titles. The agreement involves only distribution; acquisition, production and marketing will remain separate.

Dreamworks SKG, in conjunction with Paramount Home Entertainment, have announced that they will bring the comedy 'I Love You, Man' to Blu-ray on August 11, day-and-date with the DVD. No audio/video specifications have been detailed at this time, but you can expect a 1.78:1 1080p video presentation accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD track.

Night Train Announced for Blu-ray

National Entertainment Media has announced that it will bring the thriller 'Night Train' to Blu-ray on July 7, day-and-date with the DVD. Video will be 1.78:1 1080p accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, with English and Spanish subtitles. Bonus features will include a making-of featurette, interviews with cast, director and producer, a photo gallery, and a trailer.

Ghost Month Arrives on Blu-ray in July

Independent studio North American Motion Pictures has announced that it will release the horror movie 'Ghost Month' on Blu-ray on July 21, day-and-date with the DVD. As with previous titles from this studio, the Blu-ray version will only be available as part of a promotional offer for retailers consisting of three DVDs and one Blu-ray.

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the 2009 remake of 'Friday the 13th' to Blu-ray in the UK on August 10th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 1080p accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. This release will feature the "Killer Cut" similar to the US release.

Warner Brings Payback Theatrical Cut to Europe (Update)

Warner Home Video has announced that it will release the theatrical cut of the dark thriller 'Payback' on Blu-ray in Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom on August 21, August 25 and September 21, respectively. Video will be presented in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. No information on region coding is available, but Warner Bros. doesn't usually apply region locking on its releases.

Original Italian Job Comes to Blu-ray in the UK

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of 'The Italian Job' (40th Anniversary Special Edition) on June 15th. This 1969 heist movie starring Michael Caine is not available on BD in the US (only its 2003 remake is). No information on region coding has been given, but Paramount usually doesn't region-lock its titles.

The Red Shoes Remastered Blu-ray Gets Detailed

ITV Global Entertainment has announced the special features for the Blu-ray release of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's Technicolor classic 'The Red Shoes', which is due to hit UK store shelves on June 29 (initially only at HMV), after having been painstakingly restored and screened at Cannes Film Festival.
