Warner Archive, in association with Hammer Films, is preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, and Carol Marsh. The releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 27.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Will Gluck's romantic dramedy One Night Only (2026), starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Bobby Cannavale, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on October 20.

Severin Films has dated and detailed its upcoming Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray release of Just Jaeckin's Gwendoline (1984), starring Tawny Kitaen, Brent Huff, Zabou Breitman, Bernadette Lafont, and Jean Rougerie. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on November 24.

For the week of August 31st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD. New releases include the anime series Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc (2025) from Crunchyroll and Dry Leaf from Cinema Guild. Catalog titles on Blu-ray include Ten Women in Black and The Magnificent Cuckold from Radiance Films, while catalog titles on 4K UHD include The Hot Spot from Radiance and Tekkonkinkreet from Shout Factory and GKIDS.

In an apparent rebound from its financial problems, Image Entertainment has revealed a score of titles on Blu-ray for July and August. The list runs the gamut of genres, from stand-up comedy to science fiction to documentaries, and features prominently the first titles from the Handmade Films library that Image had recently licensed.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the Weinstein Company title A Single Man for release on Blu-ray on July 6. A Single Man is the first film directed by fashion designer Tom Ford, and starring Colin Firth in an award-winning (and Oscar-nominated) performance as a homosexual British professor in early 1960s California.

Eureka Entertainment has revealed initial details for the UK release of the new restoration of Fritz Lang's masterpiece Metropolis, which will come out in its new 150-minute restored version as part of the Masters of Cinema series in late 2010. It will come in special-edition packaging with a "lavish wraparound sleeve and embossed printing."

According to Home Media Magazine, all stores operated by Movie Gallery (including Hollywood Video and Game Crazy) will begin shutting down operations in approximately two weeks, followed by a nationwide liquidation sale, which will be completed in another six to ten weeks. Movie Gallery had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February, for the second time in three years.

More than 20 companies have joined the Taiwan Blu-ray Disc Consortium, a special interest group, under the Taiwan Information Storage Association, formed by Taiwan-based companies involved in the BD market. The consortium includes makers of Blu-ray optical disc drives (such as Lite-On IT), optical discs (such as CMC Magnetics and Ritek), IC design and components, which hope to join forces to negotiate better licensing terms for producing BD-related products.

Image Entertainment has announced Don McKay for release on Blu-ray on June 29. Don McKay is a dark comedy, executive produced by and starring Thomas Haden Church. It premiered at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and got a very limited theatrical release in April 2010.

Eagle Rock Entertainment has licensed the North American Blu-Ray rights to When You're Strange: A Film About The Doors from Rhino Entertainment. It will be released through Eagle Vision on Blu-Ray on June 29. During the TCM Classic Film Festival, held recently in Los Angeles, renowned film critic Leonard Maltin introduced a new digital restoration of the 1933 classic King Kong, which was shown at Grauman's Chinese Theater. Late last year, it was reported that Image Entertainment had begun preparing the classic television series The Twilight Zone for release on Blu-ray during 2010. Now, The Twilight Zone: Season One has gone up for preorder, with a list price of $99.99. No release details are available for this box set, but it is expected to include the 36 episodes of the first season.

As previously reported, in conjunction with international Earth Day, and to celebrate Avatar's UK Blu-ray release, a real-life version of the Tree of Souls 'came to life' at Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park for 3 days from Saturday 24 - Monday 26 April. The public could connect to this life-sized replica tree, with 20 miles of fibre optics, to manipulate the movement, colour and glow of the branches, make social networking status updates with an Earth Day message and upload photos and messages to a screen built into the tree's trunk.

As was expected, Avatar took the Blu-ray sales chart by storm during the week ended April 25, outselling number-two title, Crazy Heart, by nearly sixty to one. According to Nielsen VideoScan data, a record 49% of Avatar packaged-media sales came from the Blu-ray version, surpassing the 43% managed by Ong Bak 2: The Beginning in February. The UK branch of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced that Avatar has delivered the highest first-day Blu-ray unit sales for any film in the UK since the inception of the format. Avatar sales beat the previous UK record held by The Dark Knight, selling more BDs in its first 24 hours than the latest caped crusader flick sold in its first week.

As of May 10, the DVD of Citizen Kane will be pulled from shelves; in July 12, Ben-Hur will follow. Deluxe Digital Studios Inc. announced today that it has served over 8 million movie trailers to Blu-ray consumers through its BD-Live Trailer Pre-Roll technology and expects the total number to surpass 25 million by the end of 2010. Denon Electronics has announced two new 3D-Ready Universal Blu-ray players to its lineup: the DBP-1611UD (SRP $399, available June) and the DBP-2011UDCI (SRP $799, available August). Full 3D capability will be added in the fall through a firmware update.
