Dracula's Castle Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman June 20, 2020 Note: This film is available as part of
Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection.
Disc Four of The Masterpiece Collection aggregates three titles that have at least a tangential connection to each other. Blood of
Dracula's Castle and Dracula's Castle are basically two versions of the same film, while Horror of the Blood Monsters offers
vampires again, albeit this time interpolated from a Filipino film that Adamson decided to appropriate.

This is a "tv version" of Blood of Dracula's Castle which interpolates some kind of cheesy werewolf material in order to flesh out (no pun intended) the character of Johnny, played by Robert Dix. For a brief plot recap, I refer those interested to our Blood of Dracula's Castle Blu-ray review.
Dracula's Castle Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

Dracula's Castle is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Severin Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.32:1. This "TV cut" of Blood of Dracula's Castle arguably looks at least a little better than the presentation of the (shorter) theatrical cut, though this presentation is still littered with pretty ubiquitous flecks and speckling. It doesn't have the same degree of really bad scratching that I mentioned in the review of Blood of Dracula's Castle, though. The palette looks very similar to that in the original feature film, and this presentation has the same kind of soft quality that permeates the original feature as well.
Dracula's Castle Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

Dracula's Castle features a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track. I'm scoring this at the same 3.0 level I gave to the audio on the original theatrical cut, though it may be just a bit boxier in overall sound, as well as not being quite as hot as the original mix. There are occasional age related pops and cracks (and what sound like some inartful edits), but things are presented with reasonable fidelity throughout. English subtitles are available via the button on your remote.

Dracula's Castle Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

The added material here is spotty at best, but the technical merits of this tv version are arguably at least a little better than the theatrical presentation. This version does make for an interesting "compare and contrast" viewing experience with the theatrical version.
