The Wizard of Oz 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman January 30, 2020

Warner Brothers and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the classic 1939 film 'The Wizard of Oz.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

The Wizard of Oz 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

Warner Brothers' SteelBook depicts the film's title character, Dorothy, asleep in a field of flowers. Red blossoms abound, as do smaller yellow blooms poking out amidst green grasses. The character appears in the top third, left arm cradled across her torso. She's wearing a blue and white dress atop a white short-sleeve blouse. The film's title appears in large block white letters, outlined in yellow, in the bottom two-thirds portion. The rear panel simply carries over the front image's field of flowers. There is a mild metallic reflectivity to the front and rear. It is also slick and smooth and will show some fingerprints. The spine is a solid red color. The film's title runs down the spine center. A Warner Brothers logo appears at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features the wicked witch on the left, hiding behind a tree, peeking out and looking to the right at Dorothy and the Scarecrow, who have paused for a moment on their way along the yellow brick road. Green grasses, trees, and a fence prominently appear around the image.

The Wizard of Oz 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

The Wizard of Oz is one of those films that lives on in popular perpetuity and it has now received a top-tier UHD in a high class SteelBook. It looks terrific inside and out but the disc content is what really matters, and that absolutely shines. This SteelBook earns my highest recommendation.
