The Princess and the Frog 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Disney's 2009 traditionally animated film 'The Princess and the Frog.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

The Princess and the Frog 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

Disney's effectively busy SteelBook, which is smooth and will attract some fingerprints, features a predominantly blue background and the film's title center bottom. The word "Frog" is green and a crown appears in the middle of the "O." Middle-front is an oval window inside of which Tiana holds Prince Naveen in frog form. A New Orleans backdrop appears faintly behind. Part of this center image is debossed, allowing Tiana and the frog to appear raised from the background. Surrounding the circle is a busy gaggle of characters which include, prominently, Dr. Facilier at the top. Four additional small ovals display secondary characters, clockwise from the 10:00 position: Mama Odie, Louis, Eli and Charlotte La Bouff, and James and Eudora. The rear panel is a bit less busy. The dominant blue color remains across the top two-thirds while below is a scene depicting a boat sailing from right to left along the water and against a dusky city sky. The firefly Ray appears center. The spine carries over the blue color. The film's title appears center. An UltraHD logo may be seen at the top while a Disney logo appears at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features Tiana on the right, dressed as a princess, holding the puckering frog in her hands with a questioning look on her face. Her dresser is prominently featured on the left.

The Princess and the Frog 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

For its The Princess and the Frog SteelBook, Disney has found a nice balance between clutter and attractiveness. The debossing work on the front looks and feels good, and the character collage surrounding Tiana, combined with the blue coloring, serves the overall presentation well. The rear side is less busy but no less pleasing to the eye. The inner print is very nice but requires removing both discs to see the focal point. The UHD picture is striking and the audio is passable. A nice assortment of legacy extras are included. Highly recommended.
