The Okinawa War of 10 Years is a thrilling action classic with an epic battle of the yakuza. From the Toei Company, The Okinawa War of 10 Years is a great showcase for star Sonny Chiba. Produced by Tatsuo Honda (Roaring Fire, Moeru yusha), The Okinawa War of 10 Years is a worthwhile gem. Co-starring Hiroki Matsukata, Yumiko Nogawa, Makoto Satô, and Makoto Fujita.

Okinawa is going through a period of transition. Japan has regained control over Okinawa. The land of Okinawa is no longer under the jurisdiction of the USA. The Yakuza has a new set of challenges to face now.

While under US control, the Yakuza had more success than usual and the crime underworld was flourishing.  Now it’s a war between sides and the power battle is on for the Yakuza. An all-out battle ensues between the Yakuza and the ordinary street gangs of Japan. Which side will emerge the power leader? One thing is for sure: Sonny Chiba won’t back down.

Star Sonny Chiba delivers a worthwhile and impressive performance in The Okinawa War of 10 Years. The Okinawa War of 10 Years is a nice showcase for Chiba and his range as a star. Chiba dives into his role with a dedication to the part. Fans will be pleased with his performance and his star power in The Okinawa War of 10 Years.

The production is well-done and there are a lot of noteworthy elements to appreciate. The art direction by Yoshikazu Sano (The House Where Evil Dwells, House on Fire) adds to the expansive style of the filmmaking. The Okinawa War of 10 Years is more robust and engaging as a production with the aesthetic qualities the art director brought to the table.

The cinematography by Shigeru Akatsuka (The Shogun Assassins, Legend of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds) is a highlight. The visuals are an essential part of The Okinawa War of 10 Years. Creative and inspired cinematograph helps to showcase the action and spectacle of the filmmaking.

The score composed by Hajime Kaburagi (Terrifying Girls' High School: Animal Courage, Female Yakuza Tale: Inquisition and Torture) is engaging and adds to the thrills of the film. A top-notch score for The Okinawa War of 10 Years. The music is an essential backdrop to the spectacle.

Written by Isao Matsumoto (Legend of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds, The Yakuza Code Still Lives), Masakazu Shimura (The Street Fighter's Last Revenge, The Shogunate's Harem), and Ichirô Ôtsu (Ninja Warriors, 1750 Days of Turbulence), The Okinawa War of 10 Years is a solid script. The film has a strong concept. The battle stage is set for action. The script is exciting and fun.

Directed by Akinori Matsuo (The Lady Professional, The Dragon and the Tiger), The Okinawa War of 10 Years is a fun film and one that Sonny Chiba fans won’t want to miss. Director Matsuo brings out the best from star Sonny Chiba. The Okinawa War of 10 Years is a blast of action-adventure spectacle.

Released on Blu-ray by Shout Factory, The Okinawa War of 10 Years is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen. The presentation is worthwhile. the high-definition transfer is free from egregious print imperfections. The scan looks quite pleasing overall. Color reproduction isn't quite as robust as desired at times but the scan still looks quite healthy overall. A solid presentation by Shout Factory.

The release is presented in Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio Mono (with English subtitles). Dialogue is clear and easy to understand. The score is well reproduced. The soundstage is excellent for a mono soundtrack. The English subtitles are well-done and free from egregious spelling or grammatical errors. No English dubbed option is provided.

The Okinawa War of 10 Years is an entertaining spectacle and one that is a nice showcase for action star Sonny Chiba. Sonny Chiba is terrific in the feature and delivers in spades. The Okinawa War of 10 Years is a blast for Sonny Chiba fans. The Blu-ray release provides a solid high-definition presentation and lossless audio. The release also includes a trailer for The Okinawa War of 10 Years. Recommended.
