A massive alien presence of enormous power enters Federation Space, destroying three powerful Klingon cruisers and neutralising everything in its path. As it heads towards Earth, Admiral James T. Kirk returns to the helm of an updated Enterprise and sets course to meet the aggressor head on.

Paramount has widely released a UHD SteelBook packaging variant for the 1979 film 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the UHD theatrical cut release included with the four-film UHD bundle. Note that this is not the director's cut version of the film, which is available individually and not on SteelBook packaging (but which is available in a collectible boxed set). See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Paramount's glossy SteelBook features traditional film artwork on the front with Kirk, Ilia, and Spock within vertical rainbow stripes with the
Enterprise flying through space below. A star field is behind them, and the film's title appears centered at the bottom. The rear panel is black
with a few
stars scattered around and the text "the human adventure is just beginning" in white letters, center. The spine features the same black star field and
the film's title, center, as it appears on the front. A white Paramount logo appears at the top.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features Ilia, Spock, Kirk, Decker, and McCoy, left to right, walking on the
surface of V'ger.
Also included is a handsome full color, glossy booklet that begins with a Gene Roddenberry quote and comes packed with hand-drawn concept art
(along with, sometimes, similar stills from the set or film), renderings of set-ups for making key shots, photos of crew working on miniatures and
models, a full cast photo near the end, and a closing note from Robert Wise. On the rear cover is advertising artwork featuring the Enterprise
(it's one of my favorite movie posters).

Im a hardcore Trekkie, so of course I love it. It's simple and elegant and reflects the film's original promo materials front and back, and the inner print is nice enough. I wish this also included the director's cut, but I can't complain since I already own it a couple of times already on UHD. Here's hoping every Trek film eventually earns an individual SteelBook release. Highly recommended!
