Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time is a soft-core sexy-romp involving action and adventure elements in the mix of sexy-escapades. The series features animation by production studio Wolfsbane (Banished From The Heroes' Party, Battle Athletes Victory ReSTART!) and the series comes from producers Hiroshi Nishiyama (Battle Athletes Victory ReSTART!), Kazuhiro Nagasawa (St. Luminous Mission High School), Masanori Ishii (The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made), Ryutaro Usukura (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle), Sumire Ito (I'm Standing on 1,000,000 Lives), and Yoshinobu Iwatani (Nobunaga Teacher's Young Bride). Created by Daisuke Hiyama, Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time isn’t anything complex – it’s adult fare with uncensored video. What more to say?

Peter Grill (Hiro Shimono) has a lot of claim to his fame – the warrior fighter is beloved for his machismo strength. Yet there is another element to the warrior… the lustful side. Surrounded by plenty of sultry and sexy young women, Peter Grill finds that women all around are wanting to get in to bed with him.

There are countless young women tossing themselves at Peter (all hoping to get some of his offspring and the same good genes for their own future kids). Which women will succeed in getting the pants off of Peter Grill (and get him laid in bed)? With sexy women all around him left and right, the action is on – and the sticky fun inside the sheets begins!

The Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time series is predominately a soft-core porn anime and the characterizations are barely-there as a result. There is hardly anything to explore in regards to the characterizations. This is an adult anime offering with plenty of rambunctious elements – and with completely uncensored video.

The animation is surprisingly decent for an adult anime production. The character designs by Rui Ishige are reasonably well done. The designs often highlight the ladies (erm, attributes?) and their outfits are scantily-clad. The animators certainly explore the sexy bed- sheets elements of the production well enough to appeal to the target base.

"Which way to the beds?"

The art direction by Mitsuharu Miyamae (All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, Cyberteam in Akihabara) is decent enough for this type of anime production. Though the Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time series isn’t as ambitious or creative as some anime series, it manages to showcase some decent action-elements alongside the adult animation elements.

The cinematography by Moeto Tsurumai is surprisingly decent and has nice and bright animation. The colorful animation is well- showcased by the cinematographer and the approach to lighting the series animation. The series cinematographer focuses on how to showcase the sexy elements with as much uncensored video as possible.

The music by MUSIC-PLANET isn’t anything too special. The music sounds like average background music at best. There simply isn’t much going on with regards to the score here. The score doesn’t stand out as anything too impressive and merely works as adequate background score to enhance the tone of the production.

Written by Nora Mori (Adults Dunno How to Love!), Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time isn’t all that special. The story is average. The characterizations in the script are average. The focus of the script is focused heavily on the adult situations and themes and that is the strength of Mori’s scripting.

Directed by Tatsumi (Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time - Super Extra), Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time focuses on stimulation – and how to keep audiences as aroused as possible. The production features a lot of uncensored adult animation and this is clearly the main goal of Tatsumi with the series. Nothing spectacular but for those expecting to watch a soft-core title, this title delivers that in spades.

Arriving on Blu-ray from Sentai Filmworks, Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The release is presented with exceptional encoding. Colors are bright and have plenty of "pop" on the encode. A release with plenty of uncensored video, the encoding capably handles the sometimes-explicit animation.

The release includes a selection of lossless audio options: English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo and Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo (with English subtitles). The lossless audio encoding sounds reasonably good. Dialogue sounds clear on the release. While the sound stage seems somewhat limited, the audio track is crystal clear sounding.

Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time is an explicit soft-core title for adults. The series animation highlights the sexual hijinks and escapades aplenty. The main focus of the animation is the sexy misadventures. Which sexy ladies will get to bed Peter Grill? The production is a soft-core entry. However, the release includes a lot of uncensored video as well – one of the main selling points.

Featuring a strong video and audio presentation, fans of Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time will certainly consider the release worthwhile. It might be best to consider renting it first, though. The release isn't for everyone. Sentai Filmworks doesn't usually release titles as graphic as this one but audiences looking for a sexy romp might want to indulge despite some other average-qualities to the series.
