Official synopsis:
In the sixth season of Outlander, the Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a colonial society which – as Claire
knows all too well – is unwittingly marching towards Revolution. Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire
and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser’s Ridge. They must now defend this home – established on land granted to them by the Crown –
not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care.
The
Outlander freight train continues barreling through the television landscape. Season six picks up the pieces from the devastating
season five
finale and follows as the characters attempt to settle down into a semblance of life at Fraser's Ridge. The season blends tight and tense family
and community drama against the backdrop of one of history's major turning points to fine dramatic effect and entertainment value impact. The
characters remain wonderfully acted and the production design holds to its top-notch qualities and characteristics. This is a fine season that is
certainly a long way and a far cry from the show's roots in terms of setting, characters, and plot dynamics, but kudos to the show for holding so
tight to the core characteristics while forging ahead into new territories, literally and figuratively alike.
The following episodes comprise season six. Summaries are courtesy of the Blu-ray packaging.
Disc One:
- Echoes: Jamie's authority is tested when an old rival from Ardsmuir shows up to settle on the Ridge. Claire finds a new way to cope
with the trauma of her assault by Lionel Brown.
- Allegiance: Jamie struggles with his first request as Indian Agent. Roger presides over an unusual funeral. Marsali gives birth.
However, the joy is short lived when a discovery is made.
Disc Two:
- Temperence: Roger comes to Henri-Christian’s aid after he’s bullied by a few Fisherfolk lads who believe the baby is a demon. Fergus
is distraught over the child’s treatment and worries about his future. Tom allows Claire to perform surgery on his hand despite his discomfort around
her. Meanwhile, a friendship blooms between Young Ian and Malva.
- Hour of the Wolf: While visiting the Cherokee, Ian encounters a man from his past who dredges up painful memories of his time with
the Mohawk. Jamie meets another Indian Agent and fellow Scot, Alexander Cameron, who challenges Jamie’s personal convictions and causes him
to re-evaluate his position as Indian Agent. Claire tests ether.
Disc Three:
- Give Me Liberty: Claire and Jamie attend a loyalist event in Wilmington honoring Flora MacDonald, and Jamie is forced to toe the
political line between loyalist and rebel despite knowing the outcome of the impending war. Meanwhile, Roger empathizes with a young widow on
the Ridge and is forced to take a step back from helping her after it appears she feels more for him than friendship.
- The World Turned Upside Down: A dysentery epidemic spreads on the Ridge, and Claire falls deathly ill; she is almost recovered when
the Christies arrive and drop a bombshell; as nefarious rumors spread like wildfire on the Ridge, tragedy strikes.
Disc Four:
- Sticks and Stones: Claire struggles with her inner demons as a nefarious rumor begins to spread on the Ridge. Tensions rise as
residents fear there is a dangerous person in their midst.
- I Am Not Alone: Richard Brown and his Committee of Safety arrive to arrest Claire for murder; however, due to the rising political
tensions in the colonies, Brown's plan to find a judge for a trial does not go as expected.
Outlander: Season Six Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality
Sony brings the sixth season of Outlander to the Blu-ray format with a striking 1080p transfer. It is very much in line with the previous season
effort. The digital photography presents a crystal-clear image that is tight, well defined, and consistently beautiful beginning to end. Viewers will quickly
note the excellent definition and detail present in every element: skin, period attire, wood, woodland terrain, and all manner of support elements that
do not just reveal the show's period production design but allow the audience to marvel at the tactile nature of it all. The image never goes soft, fuzzy,
or flat; it's wonderful beginning to end. Color output is wonderful as well. Natural tones such as greens and earthy beiges deliver perfectly defined
temperature and contrast, while period clothes (including British red uniforms) are full and tonally flavorful with a naturally authentic appearance. Black
level depth is excellent, whites are vivid, and skin tones are naturally oriented. Noise is kept to a bare minimum and there are no major encode
problems of note. This is a wonderful transfer from Sony.
Outlander: Season Six Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality
Sony's DTS-HD master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack accompanying Outlander's sixth season satisfies on all fronts. The track yields seamless,
lifelike clarity to all elements, notably to the general sonic atmosphere of the setting where natural breezes, rustling leaves, light insects, and other
natural sound elements fluidly and realistically immerse the listener into the period setting. Action scenes come alive with impressively balanced chaos,
with screams, gunfire, and other sounds of battle springing out of every speaker with balance and great attention detail. Music soars with wonderful
definition and instrumental clarity. Spacing is wide along the front and the surrounds carry a balanced support element. Dialogue is clear and center
positioned for the duration.
