Park Hoon-jung's "New World" (2013) arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of British distributors Montage Pictures/Eureka Entertainment. The only bonus feature on the disc is an original trailer for the film. In Korean, with optional English subtitles for the main feature. Region-B "locked".

New World Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality 

Presented in an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080p transfer, Park Hoon-jung's New World arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Montage Pictures/Eureka Entertainment.

The release is sourced from the same excellent digital master that Well Go USA worked when they prepared the North American release of New World in 2013. Unsurprisingly, the film looks fantastic in high-definition. Virtually all close-ups with plenty of natural light boast exceptional clarity and sharpness in some cases actually appear like perfectly taken digital photographs (see screencaptures #5 and 8). The wider panoramic shots also convey exceptional detail and stability. Colors are lush, natural, and perfectly balanced. Even on a very large screen stability remains very impressive. There are no transfer-specific anomalies to report in our review. Great presentation.

New World Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality 

There are two standard audio tracks on this Blu-ray release: Korean DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and Korean LPCM 2.0. Optional English subtitles are provided for the main feature.

I viewed the film with the lossless 5.1 track. My guess is that the film has a fully digital soundtrack and the mix essentially replicates the quality of the original audio master -- clarity, depth, stability, and overall balance are terrific. The dialog is clean and easy to follow.

New World Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

New World is a very sleek contemporary Korean crime thriller that should appeal to a wide range of viewers that enjoy quality Asian films. It makes its Blu-ray premiere in the United Kingdom via the recently launched Montage Pictures, which has been picking up some really interesting films for its catalog. The technical presentation s fantastic, but the only bonus feature on the Blu-ray is an original trailer. RECOMMENDED.
