Lady and the Tramp Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman February 16, 2018Walt Disney's classic 1955 animated feature film 'Lady and the Tramp' has been re-released to Blu-ray as part of the 'Signature Collection,' new editions bearing Walt Disney's signature and featuring new bonus content not previously available on Blu-ray while also removing some extras or transitioning them to digital. This is the sixth in the 'Signature' line, following 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,' 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'Pinocchio,' 'Bambi,' and 'The Lion King.' For this release, as with the others, video and audio remain unchanged. Read on for more on what is and what is not included.

Lady and the Tramp Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Lady and the Tramp's "Signature Collection" Blu-ray release contains a little new content (fluff, mostly), carries over a few core extras,
removes a couple of insignificant others, and transitions
some of the Diamond Edition's extras to digital-only (which the Movies Anywhere app would not permit me to access due to having previously
redeemed a digital copy for the film, so those considering selling the previous BD release for this one may want to reconsider if these are indeed
unavailable to those who already own the film digitally, or who just want them on a hard copy disc). In addition to the Movies Anywhere digital code, a
DVD copy of the film is included with
purchase.
The following content is new to the Signature Blu-ray release:
- Walt & His Dogs (1080p, 8:27): Walt Disney reminisces about his dogs while images from the Walt Disney Family Museum show scenes from his life.
- Stories From Walt's Office (1080p, 6:02): A look at Walt Disney's office as restored for fans and employees. Disney archivists show the current office and images from the past.
- How to Make a Meatball and Other Fun Facts About Lady and the Tramp (1080p, 9:06): Alexys Gabrielle and Teen Chef Amber Kelley provide cooking lessons and fun facts from the movie.
- Song Selection (1080p, 9:59 total runtime): Sing-along versions of songs from the film. Included are "Peace on Earth," "What is a Baby/La La Lu," "The Siamese Cat Song," "Bella Notte," and "He's a Tramp."
- Sing-Along Mode: The same as the previous supplement, but in-movie rather than the songs pulled out separately.
- Classic Bonus Preview (1080p, 0:48): An advertisement for the now-digital bonus features from the Diamond and Platinum disc releases.
- Diane Disney Miller: Remembering Dad (1080p, 7:51): Miller reminisces about her Dad, their life during the production of Lady and the Tramp, the opening of Disneyland, and showcasing Disney's apartment at Disneyland.
- Deleted Scenes (1080p, 19:11 total runtime): Scenes include "Introduction of Boris," "Waiting for Baby," and "Dog Show." These scenes are presented in early storyboard construction.
- Never Recorded Song -"I'm Free as the Breeze" (1080p, 1:26): A song Tramp sang that was cut prior to the final version of the film.
- Audio Commentary: Inside Walt's Story Meetings.
- Disc Introduction by Diane Disney Miller
- Disney Second Screen, Featuring "Inside Walt's Story Meetings: Note that this was merely a different way to watch one of the extras that is still included with this release.
- Diane Disney Miller: Remembering Dad
- Lady's Pedigree: The Making of Lady and the Tramp
- Finding Lady: The Art of the Storyboard
- Never Recorded Song "I'm Free as the Breeze"
- 1955 Original Theatrical Trailer

Lady and the Tramp Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Disney's "Signature Collection" release of Lady and the Tramp adds a few new fluffy bonus features, removes a couple of admittedly inconsequential ones, carries over a few core goodies, and transitions some to digital. Video and audio remain unchanged. With the previous Diamond release out of print and fetching top dollar both new and used, now is certainly the time for newcomers to snag a copy of this classic film on Blu-ray. But for those who already own the previously released Diamond Edition, there's little incentive to upgrade beyond collection completion's sake, whatever it is one may collect, including packaging, which is very handsome.
