Gemini Man 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman January 22, 2020

Sony and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the Will Smith VFX vehicle 'Gemini Man.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Gemini Man 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.0 of 5

Gemini Man's semi-reflective front and rear panels are a nice touch; the tradeoff is a slick and fingerprint-attracting surface. The front panel features the younger Junior walking forward, a pistol in his right hand. The elder Henry stands partially behind, Photoshopped in, back more or less to the viewer (and to Junior), turning around just enough to see the right side of his face. He's also holding a pistol. The left-top of the SteelBook is comprised of a dark, overcast city street view; the bottom quarter and right hand side is a sleek silver/gray color. The bottom gray transitions to the black with a silhouette cityscape vista, below which is the film's title in black with various cast (red) and crew (black) accompanying text. The rear panel depicts Henry at the top, aiming a rifle to the left. Below is an opposite image of Junior turned 180 degrees, appearing upside down and aiming a rifle to the right. The contrasting black and gray color scheme, here a bit less pronounced in terms of demarcation compared to the front, appears top to bottom. Some studio logos are scattered along the bottom in black. The spine is a flat black color that features the film's title in white block letters, center. A gray Paramount logo may be seen at the top while "2-Disc Set" text as well as UltraHD and Blu-ray logos may be seen at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that depicts a beautiful European vista, with resplendent buildings reflecting in water below. Gray clouds hover above, dotted by various symbols on the right.

Gemini Man 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Gemini Man's SteelBook is visually effective but not particularly memorable. It's a bit too Photoshop-y on both the front and the rear and the inner panel, while nice, does nothing to pique one's interest. The on-disc content is, at least, terrific. Recommended primarily for packaging collectors.
